More about Trips to Sweden & Holiday Packages

What Is Sweden Famous For?

Sweden is a Scandinavian country famous for scenic lakes, mountain landscapes, and winter sports. Known for a romantic, peaceful atmosphere, skilfully blending history with the modern era, Sweden is one of the most admired and famous countries in Europe. It has a rich cultural history, a pleasant climate especially in South-West coast, and extensive natural beauty. Its capital, Stockholm, is both an architectural masterpiece and stunning waterfront.

Measured by the famous Swedish “fika”, Swedes are known for taking time out of their busy day for coffee and the occasional talk. Today, Sweden is a leading force in technology, business and design.

Why Visit Sweden?

Located in Northern Europe, Sweden is a holiday destination where nature reigns supreme. With its untouched forests, lakes and islands, its Viking history and beautiful countryside, it is the ideal place for history lovers, outdoor enthusiasts and activity holidays seekers.

Regardless of the holiday type you are after, his Scandinavian country will amaze you with its historic cities, nightlife and very good food. Why not book your next trip there now?

What Can a Trip to Sweden Offer?

With endless natural beauty at every turn, Sweden is the perfect getaway for the active traveler who wants to have some fun while enjoying nature.

This country is a great choice for your next vacation, as there is something to do in every season, and so much to explore. Holidays in Sweden can get a lot done, from attractions and sights, from the Northern Lights viewed from Tree Hotel to great City Breaks in Stockholm, Gothenburg or Helsingborg.

If you haven’t been to Sweden, then a short break to Stockholm is a great place to start. It is truly one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Built on 14 islands with 50 bridges, the city blends natural and architectural beauty together with history and modern culture, to provide a memorable experience for visitors to this city of archipelagos. Today, there is even an Abba Museum for those of us who love their history and music.

From winter breaks to summer holidays in Sweden, the capital city has a vibrant and diverse population and a range of entertainments to satisfy even the most discerning traveller. The Stockholm Archipelago, made up from nearly 30,000 islands, provides you with all the essentials for a year-round adventure: cosy cabins and guesthouses, or our recommendation - staying in the Lapland Lodge, surrounded by nature, sea and wildlife with an abundance of activities for the whole family.

When you visit Stockholm you can enjoy the Nordic atmosphere and Stockholm City Centre with the Gamal Stan (Old Town) and its amazing Architecture. Try a Stockholm Weekend Break. Should you wish to extend your stay or travel to see the outstanding Northern Lights in North Sweden, Baltic Travel Company can tailor make your Sweden Winter Holiday.

Why not combine Stockholm with a visit to the island of Gotland? A short flight or ferry ride will connect you to Visby, where you can explore this charming town, an historic centre of the Hanseatic League, beautiful beaches and see why Ingmar Bergman lived and made films on Gotland, Sweden’s largest island and home to some 57,000 people.

Is Sweden a Good Place to See Northern Lights?

Yes, Sweden is one of the best places in the world to see the stunning Northern Lights, and has been so for many years! The Aurora Borealis are a huge attraction here, so take full advantage of your holiday in Sweden by seeing this incredible natural phenomenon. The best places in Sweden to see auroras are the North of Sweden, especially Abisko and Kiruna (known as Sweden's green triangle), and certain areas of the Lapland region.

When Is the Best Time Go on a Sweden Holiday?

If you want to enjoy a Sweden holiday, then it is best to go during the summer. The peak season in Sweden is June through August, but travellers are visiting all year round.

Sweden offers many different travel experiences, depending on when you go. If you are thinking of going to see the Northern Lights - which is only visible during the winter months between October and March - it is worth considering a winter holiday. An alternative is to visit Stockholm in May, when temperatures are still mild and the city comes alive during its month-long festival celebrating art.

Sweden is also a winter destination, which features the original Ice Hotel in Jukkasjarvi and an excellent ski resort in Are, which has become a regular stop on the World Cup ski racing circuit. There are also plenty of opportunities for winter activities beyond the Arctic Circle, such as dog sledding, snow shoeing and snow mobile rides. Sweden tours in Swedish Lapland is still a hidden gem compared to Finnish Lapland, so you should visit this remote region in search of the last true wilderness of Scandinavia.

Throughout the winter season, you may take a trip where you can see the Northern lights in Sweden. The further north, the better and the clearer the skies; these amazing lights can appear in a rainbow of colours across the night sky.

Winter trips to Sweden are increasingly in demand and can be tailor-made as part of a Stockholm weekend break, with a Stockholm city break, Stockholm attractions trip with the stylish Stockholm city centre as a backdrop.

At Christmas time we can also recommend Christmas Markets in Stockholm where you can enjoy cinnamon swirls and Glogg, the Swedish form for Vin Chaud and mulled wine to stay warm, while exploring this great Nordic city.

What to Do in Sweden?

Sweden has a lot to offer, from world-famous sights and breathtaking nature, to cozy cafes and Michelin-starred restaurants.

There is so much to see in Sweden that you might need more than one week to take it all in. Learn about the country's different cultures, environments and wildlife as you travel throughout the beautiful countryside.

Sweden is a wonderful place to explore for all ages and activities. The country boasts a varied landscape with forests, mountains and lakes, as well as many small fishing villages and cities that are beautifully preserved.

The most popular tourist destination in Sweden is north of Stockholm. Take a tour to the great outdoors: hike, bike, and kayak along the scenic Lule River.

Where to Go in Sweden?

Sweden is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. While you can explore in any direction, we encourage you to consider such natural wonders as Stockholm's archipelago and Gotland island, the northern Swedish provinces of Norrland and Lapland, with their breathtaking scenery and abundance of outdoor activities for all ages.

Browse our most popular tours and packages including Stockholm, Gothenburg and more. With guided tours, comfortable hotels and local transport included, we can help you create the perfect holiday in Sweden!

How to Get Around in Sweden?

There are many ways to travel around on your trip, from the traditional buses and trains to the more quirky local means like boats and of course bikes!

Flying is the most convenient way to get around Sweden. Stockholm has an international airport and a second airport that is mainly used for domestic flights. There are also trains and buses that can take you across Sweden. If you wish to travel by road, it is highly recommended that you carry an International Driving Permit when driving in Sweden.

One of the best ways to see Sweden is on a bicycle. Whether you are travelling alone or with a family, a bike trip will give you an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Swedish countryside, interact with charming locals, and sample delicious delicacies.

How Many Days Are Enough to Tour Sweden?

This Nordic country can be visited in as little as a weekend, but for a true taste of what this grand nation offers, we recommend making it a week-long trip.

Sweden is a country full of natural wonders, from dramatic fjords to snow-capped mountains. But it's also one of Europe’s most fascinating cultural centre. Whatever you choose to do in Sweden–skiing, hiking, or lounging by the water, an overnight stay in Stockholm is a must!

Is Sweden Expensive for a Holiday?

Sweden is not the most expensive country in Europe, but it's certainly not the cheapest holiday destinations either. In some categories, such as food, restaurants and accommodation you'll find that prices are comparable with neighbouring countries. There are however quite a few high-end establishments in Stockholm, and getting to other cities is likely to be more expensive than taking local public transport around other big capitals of Europe.

There is a range of accommodation to suit all budgets, so if you are looking for cheap holidays, it is doable. Contact us today to talk about your travel arrangements and arrange a bespoke holiday to Sweden's top destinations on a budget!

What Are Sweden's Top Attractions?

Sweden is a truly wonderful place to visit. The country has many beautiful attractions, including the Northern Lights, Ice Hotel and Skansen, while Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, Östersund, Uppsala are the most sought-after destinations for holidays in Sweden, where people are very friendly, offering an unforgettable stay. Skåne is Sweden's southernmost province, with a moderate climate and seemingly endless stretches of coastline. The area has been inhabited since the Iron Age - you can still see the remnants of old villages today.

A bustling capital city, Stockholm is a great place to start your Swedish adventures. Surrounded by water and lined by parks, Stockholm is located on 14 islands connected by bridges. You can stroll through the bustling main streets, where shops, restaurants and galleries line the cobbled streets. There are also plenty of museums to visit, including the internationally famous Vasa Museum. This is one of the most popular attractions with its impressive Viking ship filled with all sorts of historic objects.

Or why not embark on Highlights of Sweden Fly-Drive to visit Stockholm, Dalarna & Gothenburg in one go? The natural beauty of Sweden's parks and forests is what makes the country such a magnificent place to visit. You will soon find out that this is also true for its people.

Reviews of Trips to Sweden & Holiday Packages

Dear Saija

We had a truly wonderful holiday in Scandinavia. Thank you for organising such a successful itinerary. Your comprehensive notes with directions and maps enabled us to travel without anxiety. All the transfers worked smoothly and we enjoyed exploring the three cities.

The hotels you chose were a triumph particularly the Indigo in Helsinki and Berns Hotel in Stockholm. The service at both was excellent as was the food. Nothing was too much trouble. The Radison in Turku was fine for one night but not special - very large and not as plush or individual, inevitably so.

We would certainly recommend you to our friends and would use your services again in the future. I am mulling over the idea of a holiday to Tallin and St Petersburg next year ... so watch this space!

With our grateful thanks for organising this holiday for us at such short notice, working around our booked flights.

Regards,

Sue and Quentin S

Dear Lena,

Thanks for getting in contact. We had a lovely holiday thank you and everything seemed to flow very smoothly. All the hotel staff were very helpful, on several occasions checking us in early, which was good as we then had time to do things after we had arrived, and the hotels well situated. We packed a lot into our available time. Our highlights were:

  • In Stockholm – the Vasa Museum, which was fantastic. We’d been a bit uncertain at first whether to go or not due to the cost for the 4 of us, but we were very glad we did.
  • The Viking Museum trip from Mora – which was very interesting.
  • In Gothenburg – We had a day trip on the boat to the Gothenburg Archipelago which was great. The location of the hotel in Gothenburg was good also, especially the restaurant on the top floor.
  • Best of all was that we were very lucky and the weather was pretty sunny most of the time – see attached photos.

We would therefore recommend this trip to others. The hotels can be busy at breakfast, especially in Stockholm,  but after a while we developed a strategy for avoiding the crush which worked well.

Our many thanks for all your arrangements and help.  It was good to know there were provisions in place should we have run into difficulties.

Kind Regards

Jill

Hello Saija!

Thank-you! I am safely and happily back home after a wonderful Scandinavian experience!  Thank you for asking.

I very much enjoyed my travels, in particular, Norway.  Thank you so very much for your assistance in putting together my package.  Where do I begin?!

Highlights for me were Norway in a Nutshell (I loved the extra day and stay in Flam at Heimly Pensjonat), climbing to the top of Pulpit's Rock, Sea Safari Andenes Brygga (although, as you know, I was disappointed that the weather wouldn't allow for the Whale Safari), kayaking in the fjord with Active Tromso, and exploring the towns of Stavanger and Bergen.  I also enjoyed exploring Oslo, Stockholm and Copenhagen.

The modes of transportation suited me well.  I liked the variety of train, boat and ferry which allowed me to see more of the country.  I, personally, didn't use the air seat on the Stavanger-Bergen ferry because it was in a dark cabin with no windows and a lot of sleeping people, and I wanted to see the scenery so I sat on the seventh deck where there was a great view and I could snooze as I pleased!  Planes was also great when used.

The hotels were very good, especially the Thon hotels.  They were centrally located and comfortable.  Their breakfasts were amazing!  I did find it interesting that at the last two Thon hotels, I was asked for my credit card in case I used something from the mini bar and they put one kroner on it which they refunded.  They said it was policy.  I'm not sure how/if this will be reflected on my credit card statement yet.  Only the Copenhagen Crown was in an area that was a bit questionable (I was advised to stay clear of a portion of a nearby street, Istedgade, for prostitution and drugs) and there was some inconvenient street and sidewalk construction going on (not a big deal, but the neighbouring businesses and stores weren't very accessible.)

Would I have changed anything? Perhaps an extra day in Bergen would have been nice because there was a lot to see and do and I felt I didn't have as much time there as I would have liked.  As well, I spent too many days in Andenes.  It's a very small town and there'a nothing really to do.  As it was, with the bad weather cancelling the whale safari and necessitating me to leave earlier, I was very thankful for the extra day in Tromso.  They were also kind enough to let me do the sea bird safari twice, feeling bad that the whale safari was cancelled.  Again, thank you for your help with that.  I would have only been in Tromso a day to do the sea kayaking trip and then would have had to leave for Stockholm.  I know I would have wanted to stay longer.  This way I had a day to explore Tromso as well.  So that worked out!  And I could have easily stayed there longer too!

Also, I didn't really need to do the kayaking in Stockholm as it only gave me a chance to see a little bit of the city.  Although it was fun, I ended up taking a Stromma canal tour after my kayak tour so that I could see more of the city.

My only other thought, in hindsight, would have been when I left Andenes, I took a half hour taxi ride south to Risoyhamn to catch the Hurtigruten ferry (probably pricey?).  Another option would have been to take a ferry from Andenes to Gryllefjord and then bus to Finnsnes, where I could have picked up the Hurtigruten ferry.  I'm not sure if the timing would have worked and perhaps you gave it consideration and decided against it--just a thought!

All in all, an amazing trip! I have and will continue to give credit to you and the Baltic Travel Company.  Thank you so much for all your assistance in putting this together, Saija! All your attention to detail has been much appreciated.

I hope this feedback has been helpful.  If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

Sincerely,

Trish

Morning,

I just wanted to pass on my thanks for organising an amazing holiday.

Everyone on the excursions bent over backwards to be helpful. Each and every excursion was amazing, everyone did everything they could to ensure we enjoyed the experience. Your maps and details were also invaluable and everything ran like clockwork.

We had an amazing view of the lights the night we went on the Northern Lights Hunt, though to be honest they paled into insignificance when compared to the setting and the quality of the rest of the evening! I can't give enough praise for any of the excursions we went on.

I can't thank you enough.

I look forward to speaking to you in the next year or two when we have saved for our next holiday :)

Kind wishes and many thanks

Dawn
