Lithuania is a small country that once ruled a vast empire. Lithuania is rich in history and culture - visitors spending their holidays there will not be disappointed by the scenery and how warm and outgoing the local people are. From city breaks in Vilnius to coastal holidays, we believe in tailoring your holiday to your requirements. There is also the opportunity to combine Lithuania with seeing all the Baltic Region with Latvia, Estonia and even further north to Finland and Sweden, should you wish to.
Through the recently aired BBC programme 'The Hariy Bikers Northern Exposure' we get re-accquainted with our colourful neighbours from the Baltics. The Hairy Bikers serve up a dish full of the splendour of Baltic culture, history, architecture and last but not least, the traditional Baltic cuisine. The programme shows us all there is to know about comfort food from across the Baltic Sea region. Lithuania, with the coastal region towards the Baltic sea and boardes towards Poland and Latvia, offers great traditional dishes with fresh fish and sea food, alongside wonderfully coloured salads and pickled condiments drawing on Russian and Polish influences.
Vilnius is the capital and largest city in Lithuania. It was one of the biggest cities in Eastern Europe in the 16th century and today it boasts a beautiful Baroque Old Town, one of the largest in Europe. There is much more to Lithuania than just Vilnius. If you want to see an amazing memorial to Lithuanian national identity, a visit to the Hill of Crosses is essential. Located about 150 miles northwest of Vilnius is a small hill where many hundreds of thousands of crosses have been placed to represent the peaceful resistance to foreign oppression. We can also recommend the famous Trakai Castle, situated surrounded by water on this island in lake Galve and very important for Lithuatian tourism.
Due to the size, Walking tours in Lithuania, or Cycling tours are also a possibility to explore the sights in a slower pace. We can suggest Walking tours in Vilnius but also further into the countryside............should you wish to explore beyond the city.
