Visit the crystal lakes, rolling hills and abundant forests of the Lithuanian countryside and experience the unique character of Lithuanian country folk first hand.
Take a trip to eastern Lithuania's Aukstaitija National Park. The picturesque forests and hilly terrain have an abundance of beautiful lakes. Visit the Ginuciai water mill and old ethnographic villages, or the old wooden church in Palushe, built without using a single nail.
Get a taste of the local culture as well as the scenery and explore the Samogitia National Park. You will see the picturesque area around Lake Plateliai, wooden farm buildings of the 19th – early 20th century, wayside crosses and shrines produced by local folk artists. The people who live in this area, called zemaiciai, are well known for their determination and pride, obstinate character, sharp tongue, a specific dialect which sometimes is difficult to understand. They like to say “better a long sausage than a long speech”.
