  Lithuania Holidays

Before Lithuania holidays became commonplace, it was once only known as a small country ruled a vast empire. Lithuania is rich in history and culture - visitors spending their holidays there will be enchanted by the scenery and how warm and outgoing the local people are.

Though it has a modern day population of less than 3 million, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was once the largest country in Europe, so if booking Lithuania holidays be sure to explore its vast landscape and tag along to some tours.

What to do in Lithuania?

From Vilnius holiday packages & city breaks in Vilnius, Lithuania’s historic capital, to coastal holidays and bike tours, our Lithuania holidays can also be tailored to your requirements. There is also the opportunity to combine Lithuania with the Baltic Region including Latvia holidays, Estonia and even further north to Finland and Sweden, should you wish to.

More about Lithuania Trips & Holidays

Through the BBC programme 'The Hairy Bikers Northern Exposure' and the more recent screening of ‘War and Peace’ we were re-introduced to our colourful neighbours from the Baltics. The Hairy Bikers served up the splendour of Baltic culture, history, architecture and, last but not least, traditional Baltic cuisine. The programme showed us all there is to know about comfort food from across the Baltic Sea region.

A trip to Lithuania, with its coastal region on the Baltic Sea and borders with Poland and Latvia, offers great traditional dishes with fresh fish and sea food, alongside wonderfully coloured salads and pickled condiments drawing on Russian and Polish influences.

If you watched War and Peace on BBC, here you have the chance to visit the War and Peace film locations, including the battle fields and scenes shot in Vilnius. Contact us to follow in the footsteps of War and Peace.

Vilnius is the capital and largest city in Lithuania, and one of the most popular areas for Lithuania holidays. It was one of the biggest cities in Eastern Europe in the 16th century and today it boasts a beautiful Baroque Old Town, one of the largest in Europe. It is situated in the southeast corner of the country, near the Belarus border, on the banks of the Neris River.

Since Lithuania was the first Soviet Republic to declare independence in 1990, Vilnius has changed to a modern city without losing the style associated with its long history.

Vilnius offers an Old Town with buildings restored in a beautiful manner; a 13th Century Cathedral, dedicated to Saints Stanislaus and Ladislaus and on the UNESCO World Heritage List; centuries of history and culture to explore and all within a city which has all the modern experiences and facilities the demanding traveler could desire.

Moving away from Vilnius, a visit to the Hill of Crosses is essential. Located about 150 miles northwest of Vilnius, is a small hill where many hundreds of thousands of crosses have been placed to represent peaceful resistance to foreign oppression.

We would also recommend the famous Trakai Castle, surrounded by water on an island in Lake Galvé and a major centre of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

Due to its size, Walking tours in Lithuania, or Cycling tours, are all recommended to explore this fascinating country at a more leisurely pace. Walking tours in Vilnius can also be extended into the countryside, should you wish to explore beyond the city, choosing Lithuania holidays would be a wise decision, you'd have a lot to see!

We know Lithuania and we will take you there.

Privet!

It was a good trip for me. The arrangements you made for me were spot on. No issues whatsoever. All of the tour guides were exceptional except for one. He is young and I am sure will get much better as time goes by. Very nice person. Just not much provided on information compared to the others. Hotels were good.  I didn’t go to the optional dinner in Tallinn, but the people who went were very disappointed in it. Meal was not so good and they thought there would be some type of entertainment which did not happen. Spanish speaking people were very disappointed in their Moscow guide.
I am very satisfied with the job you did. Don’t suppose you have something for me next year with Poland, Belarus, and Ukraine?

Hi Daina,

I very much enjoyed the Baltic & Russia tour, Moscow, St Petersburg & Tallin the favourite places.  It was well organised, enjoyed the informative morning orientation  tours with  free time to pursue your own activities.  Lamia ( not sure of the spelling) the tour guide from Vilnuis to Tallin was excellent, handled the diverse age range  and fitness level of the group with good humour, nothing was a bother and her language skills were excellent. The coach,  hotels and breakfasts  were all good and the weather perfect, (just I had ordered) I did think some of the add on tours were over priced, I had done my homework before I went and did some of these by myself easily by public transport for a fraction of the cost. i.e. both Suomenlinna & Jurmala    5 Euro, Organ recital Euro 15 .

Thank you for your help planning the tour.

Kind regards

Andrea

Hello Michael,

Everything went well. It was Yuanbuo’s dream trip and he really enjoyed it- everything was well organised and the hotels were lovely. Our local guides were excellent, friendly, fun, informative. In particular the local guide we had in St Petersburg was a mine of information and had clearly thought through what he was going to say over the two days. His narrative was very coherent and built up a picture of Russian tsarist history as well as giving us a lot of info about present day Russia.

Thanks again for all your help with the visa. I had insisted on going to the Baltic on an organised tour because I knew I’d need support having been ill, and it was such a relief that so much was set up for us in advance.

All the best

Angela

Hi Daina,

The trip was absolutely amazing...quite possibly one of the best trips I've been on.  Your support in the planning and the visa process was invaluable, and I can't thank you enough for your (and your team's) constant communication.  There were a few people on the tour who also used your services, and we were all singing your praises.

The only comments/feedback that I would have, and I don't know how much control you have over it are the following:

1) Having the morning tours start at 9 is great, but during the tours (the city tours especially) they seemed a little rushed in order to get everything in.  People would want to linger to take pictures or to explore, but there wasn't the time.  Potentially starting at 8:30 would give a little bit more time in the tour (although, I'm sure that even with starting earlier, people would then just want more time).

2) The transfer to the ferry station in Estonia on the way to Helsinki was a challenge, with people having to haul their luggage and trying to keep up with the group in such a busy station.  While I don't think there's anything that can be done to change that, I think letting people know that the luggage will be manually transported in the trip details/itinerary may alert people to what to expect on that day.

Thanks again, and I will definitely be recommending your company to my friends and family.

Hi Julija

Thank you for your email.

Marilyn and I had an awesome time in the Baltics and Copenhagen, Denmark.

The history is unbelievable, the buildings are beautiful, the people just amazing, very friendly and  oh! very strong, when we heard their lives explained.

The guide was just so good and very informative, friendly and interesting with all the little facts.  Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have had such a tremendously difficult history, which I knew nothing about ...

Estonia invented marzipan for depression.......how good is that! I love marzipan(especially chocolate covered).

Estonia invented Skype......Wow......

I want to thank you for all the planning, the emails, making sure everything was correctly done, you did a  superb job, everything went smoothly.

We had one big problem, you asked for double/twin room, so when we arrived we had a double bed with twin mattresses!  Not good.......we were moved to other rooms....which was not what we anticipated doing.

Few comments; which we took as an adventure so didn’t spoil our trip.

Ryanair was a joke of an airline.. Disorganised chaos, the Priority probably saved our sanity....

The best hotel was by far THE GRAND POET, absolutely one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in. ( I was in Zanzibar last year and thought that hotel was awesome).

We had champagne for breakfast, the food, service and well being of the guests was paramount and they are just awesome at what they do.

In Copenhagen, The Admiralty Hotel...well what a location, the hotel was so quirky, we loved every minute of it, they upgraded our room because of bed mix up and we overlooked the Opera House,  (designed by same Architect as Sydney Opera House, but certainly not as aesthetically good as Sydney, I attach photo from our twin room), the service, food and of course location was superb.

In Lithuania, unfortunately hotel was not as 5 star as the other 2, service was acceptable, no one to bring bags inside on arrival, staff certainly not as friendly, food was good.

Tallinn Radisson was really good, service, food and helpfulness, enjoyed staying there.

Our transfers were excellent and on time, although arriving in Lithuania and taken to hotel, he unloaded our bags in the street and went, and of course as it was late arrival, no one from hotel came out.....

We thoroughly enjoyed the Baltics and now we will keep a look out for all news from there, we hope their future is free and the economy excellent, we of course,  will tell everyone they must go.

I’ve been to most countries now, but there was something special about this trip, I certainly learned a lot of sad but people power history and it’s unbelievable towns, cities, churches, cathedrals.....

This experience would now have been possible, if the planning had not been so good...and that comes down to you....so Thank you.

Sandra
