Norway is a fascinating place to visit year-round, with the polar winter this far north in the Nordics a perfect setting to see the magical beauty of the Northern Lights up close and in person. In stark contrast, the warmer summer months and the Midnight Sun mean Norway enjoys brighter, longer days, where you can discover charming fishing villages, gorgeous architecture, or embrace the Norwegian outdoor lifestyle.

Norway Northern Lights Holidays

Norway trip packages in the winter are in high demand, offering a fantastic opportunity to see the Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis. One of nature’s most remarkable phenomena, the lights illuminate the dark night skies, dancing overhead and providing a display that is equal parts mesmerising and mystical.

Our Northern Lights tours are varied, ranging from rustic escapes to luxury wilderness cabins and guided Aurora chases. You can see the lights from a husky sled, on snowshoes or during a snowmobile tour over snowy trails or watch from the comfort of a relaxing hotel with Nordic spa facilities and fine dining.

Fjord Cruises & Coastal Packages

The deep, icy fjords and staggeringly wild coastlines of Norway are distinctive, with soaring glaciers, icebergs, and even polar bears roaming the snow in areas like Svalbard. Taking to the water is a chance to see Norway like never before, whether onboard a well-appointed cruise ship with your own private cabin, or on an authentic Arctic expedition far from everyday life.

Norway’s remote landscapes are awe-inspiring, with voyages that take you to tiny villages with ancient Stone Age ruins, stop-offs to sample local delicacies or enjoy hiking and kayaking, and visits to some of the country’s most famous outlying islands, including Kirkenes where you can try a King Crab safari, snowmobiling and even stay overnight in a Snow Hotel.

Fly-Drive & Self-Drive Itineraries

Scenic road trips in Norway are a wonderful way to take your holiday at your own pace, with Midnight Sun experiences where you can stop at the tranquil bays and beaches for a dip, head to pre-organised points to visit museums, historic sites and galleries, and try activities like sea kayaking, keeping an eye out for marine wildlife and seabirds.

All connections, travel, and accommodation can be included and adapted to your requirements, with a clear, easy-to-follow itinerary, a reliable hire car, ferry connections between the islands, passenger tickets for cruises, and, of course, tips on the best places to stretch your legs and soak in the incredible Norwegian scenery.

Adventure Activity Packages

Norway’s landscapes are spectacularly beautiful, and our Norway hiking holidays, summer camping trips, whale-watching tours and wildlife safaris are excellent for guests who love adrenaline-fuelled activities, getting in touch with nature, and exploring ice caves and snowscapes.

In the summer, travellers can try downhill biking, fjord tours on a fast-paced RIB, glacier hikes and white water rafting. Some of the most popular winter excursions include the thrill of dog sledding, ice fishing, reindeer sleigh rides, snowmobiling and trekking into the ice caves – always with knowledgeable local guides to lead the way.

Celebratory & Festive Trips

The Christmas season in Norway is special, and our travel consultants can organise Oslo city breaks that incorporate the Christmas markets and festive celebrations and wildlife photography tours in Northern Norway for those keen to see polar bears, Arctic foxes, reindeer and seals in their natural habitats.

For families with little ones, the snowy backdrop makes Norway a memorable place to spend Christmas, with Northern Lights chases, traditional festive banquets, outdoor wilderness camps, and the opportunity to meet Santa Claus himself, accompanied, of course, by his trusty reindeer.

Norway Holiday Package FAQs

1.   How bespoke are the Baltic Travel Company’s tailor-made Norway package holidays?

While you’ll find detailed itineraries & optional excursions on every package, we can adapt many elements of your Norway holiday on request. You might, for instance, like to upgrade to premium accommodation, would love help organising a stay in an authentic rorbuer (fishermen’s) hut on the Lofoten Islands or wish to add extra nights in Tromsø to ensure you have a thorough Northern Lights hunt.

2.   What level of support is included in my Norwegian package holiday?

All Norway holiday packages include 24/7 UK-based emergency support and are carefully designed in collaboration with our local hoteliers, guides, and travel partners in Norway. If you need help rearranging a missed ferry, swapping a pre-selected snowmobile tour for an ice cave hike, or sourcing missing thermal clothing, our team is on hand to assist.

3.   Are meals and accommodations selected for local authenticity?

Each package page offers details about inclusions and exclusions. Still, many of our Norway holiday packages feature hand-picked eco-lodges, farm-stay cottages, and boutique hotels with all catering included. Guests can also pick holidays where they can explore local towns independently to try Norwegian fårikål lamb stews, sample complimentary fireside snacks during late-night Aurora excursions or request help organising private wine tastings.

4.   Can I include unique experiences like dog sledding and ice-cave hikes?

Of course! Guests often dream of a dog sled ride under the Arctic sky or a guided ice cave trek, and we can advise on Norway trip packages that incorporate these off-the-beaten-path adventures.

5.   How quickly will I receive my Norway itinerary and quote?

You’ll receive a detailed, personalised Norway itinerary and firm quote within 24 hours of enquiry. Clients often comment on our “lightning-fast turnaround” and the clarity of the information and travel details we provide.

6.   Do the Baltic Travel Company’s Norway package holidays include international flights?

Many do, yes, although there are some independent travel packages. Most of our Norway ATOL or ABTOT-protected tourism packages have flight-inclusive options, making your journey seamless and stress-free.

7.   What group sizes are typical on Baltic Travel Company’s tailor-made Norway tours?

Bespoke Norway tours can be arranged for parties of any size, with the most popular option being to arrange holidays for 4 to 12 travellers. Custom tours are a wholly personal experience, allowing you to spend quality time with your loved ones, whether travelling with a partner or an extended family.

8.   Can I plan a multi-destination Norway trip, for example Tromsø, Lofoten and Svalbard?

Yes. Some of our highest demand extended Arctic Island Retreats combine Tromsø, the Lofoten Islands, Bodø, and Svalbard, with smooth transfers by boat, train, and road to ensure you discover the best of Norway’s incredible regions.

9.   Are family-friendly options available in the Baltic Travel Company’s Norway trip packages?

Absolutely. Our Norway family holiday ideas are curated for families with little ones and bigger kids, featuring popular activities like fjord lunch cruises and cable-car rides, complemented by thrilling but safe experiences, such as whale-watching and reindeer sledding, all under expert guidance.

10.   How does the Baltic Travel Company maximise my chances of seeing the Northern Lights?

Aurora-hunting flexibility is an important part of your Norwegian package holiday. If the weather is poor in Tromsø, for instance, we’ll provide an opportunity to reschedule your Aurora chase for the following evening or another night during your stay when the forecast is clear. If you’re travelling around Norway, we might also suggest reorganising your Northern Lights excursion at another stopping-off point.

11.   What happens if an activity is cancelled due to weather?

Should conditions force a cancellation, such as rough seas making a whale-watching cruise unsafe, we’ll do everything possible to rearrange or offer an alternative, for example, a fjord sightseeing tour. If this is not feasible, we’ll organise a prompt refund with no quibbling – something our guests often appreciate.

12.   Can I request private festivities or celebratory add-ons?

Yes. From toasting your anniversary in a remote lava field to sampling birthday dinners in a Sami hut, our tailor-made Norway holiday packages can include champagne, cakes, and personalised surprises.

13.   How are hidden gem locations chosen for bespoke Norway travel packages?

We rely on local guides’ insider knowledge and guest feedback to uncover secret hot springs, secluded ice caves, and remote fishing villages, ensuring you enjoy authentic, crowd-free Norway.

14.   Do the Baltic Travel Company’s Norway tourism packages offer sustainable travel options?

Yes. We regularly partner with eco-lodges powered by renewable energy, small-group providers committed to the Leave No Trace principle, and carbon-offset carriers, so you can explore Norway responsibly.

Hi Daina

We have had an amazing holiday. Norway is just beautiful ??.

We enjoyed Bergen and the skylift. Geiranger was beautiful. Matt loved driving the Troll Road.

We drive into a few small villages as we got lost, but glad we did as they were very pretty.

The hotels in Saebo , Geiranger and Flam we're probably our favourites as the views were lovely.

Also we loved just driving up the mountains, where there was still snow and took some amazing photos.

Thank you for your hard work in arranging an amazing holiday for us.??

Hi Mark

We have not used Baltic Travel Company before but Mark listened to what we wanted And was on the end of an email to answer all our questions and the whole trip went off without a hitch.

We went to Svarlbard in May and the temperature was usually-3 or so which was no problem as we had the thermal layers on.

We were a bit chilled out on deck when on the boat trip but soon warmed up inside.

The hotel has a good reputation on the island and the buffet breakfast was amazing.

The room had amazing blackout curtains which are needed as it never got dark.

It was as bright at midnight as it was at midday.

We did a trip on the electric catamaran on the first day which was when we saw a Polar Bear.

It was a long way off on the shore but plenty of people had long lenses on their cameras so the pictures will be amazing.

We saw lots of birds which the crew named for us including Northern Fulmars and Puffins.

We also saw a Walrus resting on some ice as he floated by the ship.

There are plenty of shops in town if you need warmer clothes and a supermarket with a lane “only for locals” . Make of that what you will.

All the cars are unlocked and allegedly all the front doors so that if you see a Polar Bear you can hide so that you don’t become it’s lunch. This does not apply to the Reindeer that wander throughout the town.

The Camp Barenzs wilderness evening was great fun especially when the coach dropped us of in the middle of Polar Bear territory. We were met by the host who had a rifle over her shoulder and a pistol at her waist. The evening round the fire was great fun and the reindeer stew was lovely.

The Other boat trip was on a smaller faster boat and this time a Walrus came to see us and swam round the boat posing for photos.

Longyearbyen town is easy to walk round and accessible if you have mobility issues.

Dear Nikola,

We had a great time in Oslo, Flam and Bergen. Actually, we couldn't believe how quiet it was in Oslo. No loud people, no loud cars - it was lovely. We did a guided walk and took in the opera house, the library building and the castle fortifications. We also took the metro out to Holmenkollbakken. Fortunately the weather was clear and sunny when we went there and the views back down to Oslo were excellent.

Flam was great too, well notwithstanding our slightly longer than expected train journey! For some reason there were lots of funny little dogs on the train. It was like Crufts, but in Norway! Probably our one full day in Flam was enough for what was there. The museum was interesting though and gave an insight as to how the railway into Flam was constructed. We also loved the Aegir Bryggeri brewhouse and restaurant in Flam. I think that was the standout eating and drinking experience for all of us. I'm personally a big fan of interesting beers and ales and the ones there were easily the equal of any UK beers. In other places we ate at Olivia and Egon. They obviously seem to be franchises in Norway, but we couldn't fault them.

Bergen was an interesting contrast to both Oslo and Flam. It was definitely more bustling and lively. Excellent place to visit though and I think we all felt that we'd only just scratched the surface of the place. I guess we'll have to go back some time!

Anyway, thank you Nikola and to your colleagues for all your assistance in booking the trip for us. I think we all felt that you guys at Baltic are 'a safe pair of hands'.. well, several safe pairs to be accurate!

We look forward to traveling with you again.

Kind regards,

Paul and Lynn

Hi Inga,

Nice to hear from you! We had a fabulous time thank you, and everything worked perfectly so thanks very much for putting together a well-planned schedule. On reflection we would have probably liked to have spent an extra day in Oslo as there’s so much to see, but we were time restricted on this occasion so we will just have to return to the city some day.

Dogsledding and snowmobiling were great experiences, especially the snowmobiling where we were the only guests and our guide Knut took us far put into the wilderness. The crab fishing experience was a little disappointing though, as the crabs don’t actually come into the fjord (water is too warm) so they are fished from deeper waters, placed into pots in the fjord then “fished” out for tourists. So that was a bit silly really, but the crab itself was delicious ??. Whilst in Kirkenes, I walked up to the museum which is a really interesting place, full of stories and artefacts about the area, the Sami culture, border disputes etc and there is even a Russian Sturmovik aircraft on display which is a rare sight and a real treat.

The snow hotel was amazing, and we also went for a snowshoe trek up into the hills at night. Unfortunately no aurora this time, so we will return for sure to try again.

Thanks again, we had a lovely adventure!

Mel
