More about Greenland Holidays
With its long winter nights and clear skies, Greenland is one of the best places in the world to view the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis. From September to April, brilliant displays can be seen lighting up the night skies, casting a magical glow over Greenland’s stunning landscapes. Along with a chance to observe this amazing natural phenomenon in person, our authentic tours also give you a firsthand experience of the unique Greenlandic culture and exciting activities such as dog-sledding, Icefjord cruises, hiking, kayaking and much more!
Today, Greenland society is a blend of traditional Inuit Culture mixed with modern Scandinavian influences. As an autonomous country within the Kingdom of Denmark, the official currency is the Danish Kroner (DKK) and Danish is taught as a second language in all Greenlandic schools.
In 2009 the native Greenlandic language, Kalaallisut, was declared the official language and is predominant in many of the smaller villages. That’s why it’s common to see both Greenlandic and Danish town names (usually in parentheses) listed on maps of Greenland. English is also becoming more common in Greenland, especially among young people who travel abroad to study and work and those who work in tourism
Regions of Greenland:
North Greenland is home of the Midnight Sun and is full of arctic experiences with giant icebergs and glaciers. Throughout those dreamy summer days the sun lingers all day and the sea is a galore of whales and seals to experience. In the winter, doglsedding is the main attraction. The use of dogs to pull sleds is still vital form of transport for hunters going on to the ice to catch fresh halibut and seals.
West Greenland is very densely populated region and home to almost over half of Greenland’s residents along with a magnificent collection of cultural and natural attractions. This area is extremely popular for aquatic adventures such as Fjord Cruises, Whale Watching and as the locals do it - Sea Kayaking.
South Greenland with its mild, warm summers and lush valleys puts the “green” in Greenland. Here you will experience the amazing contrasts of peaceful green fields offset by giant icebergs in the sea. This part of Greenland is oozing in Viking history; South Greenland was ground of the famous Viking explorer Erik the Red, who was inspired to name it Greenland based on the gorgeous green landscapes.
East Greenland is the more isolated area of Greenland and it is to this day still beuatifully untouched. Bursting with rough and rugged peaks and icy sea its great for some natural and outdoor activities.
Greenland is the world’s largest island that is not a continent. Not surprisingly, Greenland is the least densely populated country in the world with just over 57,000 residents.
Adding to its sparse population, in this gorgeous Arctic climate there is no system of roads or trains connecting the settlements. Instead, air and sea travel are the popular types of transportation in Greenland, but do not be surpriced to see dog sleds and snowmobiles scattered across the small settlements, as these are the preferred modes of transport for the locals.
Greenland is geographically part of the North American continent though the island has strong historical and cultural ties to the Nordic region and is part of the Danish Kingdom.
Overall Greenland is a lavish and luscious land full of rugged mountains, endless coastlines and icey seas, this magnificent place is a must see for interesting culture and attractions.

Hi Erna
Thank you for your contact my bank details are as follows:
The trip was great I really enjoyed it, the host was so friendly and full of energy and really helpful.
The hotel staff were great I felt really comfortable. Although I did have an initial panic because no one else seemed to be English in the end there was one other lady but that didn’t matter because the other guests were great really good bunch of people ??
We saw the Northern Lights twice even on the night the trip was cancelled from the hotel I had a lovely view from my room.
The iceberg tour was just stunning and worth the trip just for that.
I have attached some photos for you.

We have had a lovely time on Greenland - this is a beautiful country and we are already thinking of coming back - via Iceland next time! :)
Our highlight was the Russell Glacier. All of the guides and staff were great, but we wanted to extend particular thanks to one - Kjelt - who took us for the tundra safari, ice cap and glacier tours. He was friendly, knowledgable, funny and always smiling! And he was the one who let us know about the glacier tour and his recommendation was why we booked! Please pass on our thank you to him!
If there is any formal feedback that you wish us to fill in, we are happy to do so!
Anyhow, speak soon - we need to start packing!
Kind regards
Mei

Thank you very much for your message. This was a very nice journey, beautiful places to visit. Departure/arrival times were more or less well respected, nothing seriously annoying. Hotel was fine. It's breakfast area was too small for the number of guests, was difficult to find a table in the morning. The WOW airlines was a bit low quality, especially their ground service was not on top of their job: check-in extremely slow, personel not able to reply questions or solve problems, I will not travel again with that company. Otherwise everything fine, nothing to complain.
Iceland was amazing. The Greenland visit was fantastic, most beautiful place I've ever seen. So I'm very glad with this short journey, planning to take a longer one at some point.
Thanks for organizing, it was very comfortable having all the vouchers and bookings in advance and I've had nothing to worry about. Thank you.
Best regards,
Noemi

This is just a quick message to thank you and Baltic Travel very much for organising what has been a wonderful holiday for myself and Emily. We saw some amazing experiences in both Iceland and Greenland, which will stay with us for a long time.
It made such a difference that we had all our transfers pre-organised by yourselves, which made things so much easier, especially in Iceland, where the pick-up service was exemplary.
Our guide in Greenland, Miilo, made us feel so welcome and shared with us his fascinating local knowledge and experience. All our excursions were very memorable, especially the boat trip amongst the icebergs.
We would like to feedback however that on the Hike to the Ice Cap excursion, it perhaps needs to made clearer that the hike includes a substantial section of scambling up rock faces. There was a rope provided but it was old and frayed. We decided to turn back but still had a very good walk in the flower valley. But this was only one setback, overall we had a fantastic time and would definitely look to go on another Baltic Travel holiday in the future.
Many thanks once more!
All the best

Hope all is well!
Just wanted to say we had an absolutely incredible time in Greenland. Loved every bit of the itinerary you put together and the guides at WOG were awesome throughout. So much that we crammed in another tour to a frozen waterfall which was great. Think the highlights for me were definitely the dog sledding which we got some good photos (will have to send them over) and the glacier walk. Unfortunately we didn't see the northern lights on the Friday Tour however on our last night when we went to the Greenlandic buffet restaurant we were lucky enough to see them for around 10 minutes which was pretty magical.
I love the cold weather and think one day it got to around -25 which I thought was fantastic but was actually quite mild otherwise.
Would definitely go back and see more of this vast, beautiful country!!! It was fascinating.
Overall had an amazing adventure and can't wait for the next one in a few weeks.
Best Wishes,
Tom P
