Norwegian Autumn
Most people associate Norway with winter sports, Lapland, fjords, forests and great food. But in the brief period that is the Norwegian Autumn or Fall, there are some great opportunities for City breaks and country expeditions. Autumn is Norway's colder and windier version of summer with gorgeous colours in the two month period before winter truly sets in and visitors can look forward to Christmas Markets, snow shoeing, reindeer treking and all the great experiences of the snow-covered Northern Lands.
Autumn is an ideal time for hiking in Norway when the forests display all their wonderful colours as leaves turn red, yellow and orange. Mushrooms abound for picking and berries are plentiful. Rowanberries are especially tempting and local children will sell apple pies and other treats along your path.
The days may become slowly shorter, but that gives plenty of time to enjoy the cafes and restaurants of Norway where delicious natural ingredients and innovative recipes are a speciality. Chase the crabs, usually a summer delicacy, to Western Norway where this crustacean is served simply with bread, mayonnaise, lemon and lettuce. Or try the traditional autumn dish of lamb/mutton with cabbage.

An opera house, the Akershuss fortress, an art gallery and some fine examples of early 20th century Modernist architecture all contribute to the diverse character of this city, voted best for European quality of life in 2012. Great restaurants and bars round off this city treat but you will need a full wallet for the full Norwegian experience.
