A city break in Oslo for 4 days can start from £550 per person, but if you would like to go on an escorted holiday to the Scandinavian Capitals & Norwegian Fjords for 14 days, then the cost can be as high as £6,295 per person.

How Many Days to Go on a Trip to Norway

If you wish to go on a brief city break, then minimum 3 nights would suit you well, especially if you would like to visit the country's capital. You will have plenty of time to stop by the main tourist attractions, such as the National Theatre, Oslo Opera House or the Viking Ship Museum.

However, if you would like to see the incredible natural features and dramatic landscapes that Norway is famous for, then a minimum 5 days stay will allow you to sightsee much more. How to Tour Norway

The best way to tour Norway would be by train, since train travel is most effective, as it is both faster and less expensive compared to bus services.

The Flåmsbana Railway was deemed to be the greatest train ride in the World. This 20km adventure is about climbing mountains past deep ravines and along tall waterfalls to enjoy an unmatched experience. A train trip will allow you explore dramatic scenery without feeling too adventurous if you are not an outdoor person, so it is suitable for everybody.

What is There to Do in Norway

Choose one of our Norway cruises and explore the deep, clear waters of the majestic fjords or enjoy a Norway fly-drive holiday winding through spectacular mountain passes, featuring some of Europe's most dramatic waterfalls and glaciers. Or pick one of our Norway trips packages to go back in time visiting medieval churches and old wooden towns or hike cabin-to-cabin through some of the best hiking trails in the world. These trips offer the best experience during summer months for both locals and international tourists.

You can play golf under the midnight sun, ski down some of the best pistes in Europe or watch the Northern Lights in Norway draw their luminous curtains across the clear night skies and end the day sleeping on reindeer skins in a hotel made of ice.

Because of the vast coastline, seafood is an important component of Norwegian cuisine that you must experience on a trip to Norway. From fresh salmon to dried cod, it makes sense to try one of the many seafood meals that are offered on your trip. Norwegian lambs have been a large part of the meals menu and the grilled meat is delicate and succulent despite the unspoiled habitats and rich vegetation where the grazing sheep live. Their slow-cured lamb legs that have a long history dated to the time when the meat was cooked with fresh mountain air for long winters. Norway aims to achieve sustainable animal feed production and therefore offers some unusual dishes, like smalahove which includes sheep heads and salves.

Norwegian is very family-friendly in many ways, even if you don't speak their official language. With plenty of farm, theme parks & day excursions for everybody, we have something suitable for every holiday and every season. Some cities can be easily reached by walking and offer relaxation and stress-free excursions to museums and attractions.

There are also beaches and waterways, science centres and snowy activities that offer excitement, education and fun for a really invigorating holiday. It's no surprise Norway has some amazing outdoor activities. Mountains extend across all country and there are plenty of great places to go hiking, and practice sports all year long.

When is the Best time to visit Norway

In Norway springs and summers there are plenty of outdoor festivals that make it worthwhile visiting if it is what you are after. Nevertheless, Norway is fascinating on all seasons. During winter time, especially from October to March you get witness the Northern Lights, as the sky is getting a little darker at night creating the perfect atmosphere for you to enjoy such a distinctive natural phenomenon.

A trip to the north during summer allows you enjoy the midnight sun, another fascinating natural phenomenon when the sun never sets. In the northwestern part of the Arctic Circle the winter months are never entirely dark, giving Norwegian the nickname of ‘The Land of the Midnight Moon ’. July and July are the best months to visit Norway with the warmest time of year when you get to experience the famous night sun that creates the ideal environment for hiking, cycling, and kayaking at any time of the day or night.

In the winter, the spectacular landscape of Norway is mostly covered under a blanket of ice and snow. This is a special time for those who enjoy winter sports like downhill and cross country skiing, snow shoeing, snowmobiling, dog sledding and ice skating.

Dear Julija

We had an amazing trip thanks
We loved it!!
Our only small pointers
Please write on the daily itinerary to remind us to buy a ticket for the waterfall trip on the boat between Ulvik and Eidfjord - we forgot! Knew I’d seen it somewhere but it was in the brochure document.
The strand fjord hotel was a ok but not as nice as all the rest of the hotels which probably made it look worse then it was , it was ok just thin walls so you could hear people and felt a bit like a hostel. They do however give you a ‘free’ hire of bikes or kayaks - upto 7 activities if you have time.
We LOVED Ulvik itself - beautiful
Balestrand - the nature hikes that are there were great, there’s a cider house that does amazing Norwegian/ Turkish food, the man married a Turkish lady and now they do Norwegian food but presented in a Turkish way - like meze.
The thon hotel terminus we loved, so glad we swapped. The rooms were excellent and They include an evening meal as part of the room rate, only one choice but served w salad and bread and bits. That was really good and saved us a lot of money. A great place to start and finish the holiday.
We loved Bergen and Oslo
We loved Flåm
We loved the railway trip from olso to Myrdal - so beautiful!! Sit on the right of the train going out if you can!
Had a fantastic week, thanks for all your help!

Laura,

Thank you for your email we had a very good trip.
All the arrangements worked like clockwork and the only change was from white water rafting to canyoning - which as fine.

The hotels were all lovely.. though the Vos hotel is a little tired and the room we had very small. New accommodation is being built so it may be worth checking this out for future guests.
The glacier trip is quite tough as you now need to walk quite a long way to get to it.. but well worth it when you get there but you need to be fit and active to take this trip.. we were fine others might struggle.
Thanks you for all your help, it was a really good itinerary

Dear Michael,

Glad to hear from you.
First of all, thank you for everything. We had a great time in our tour to Norway.
The location of the Hotel Thon in Oslo was fab. We had some rain but it was ok. We took the Hop on Hop off. We liked very much the Hotel as well.
The trip to Fläm was awasome. We enjoyed the trip even with the luggage and the changing of trains. It was not an issue at all. But we travelled light. This helped a lot.
The hotel in Fläm  was very good and the food was divine.
The Fjords were something else. Let me point that we got in the boat before the others because we were in that tour. It made a difference. Thanks again.
The bus to Voss was not so good as the others.  The train station there is under construction but ok. We managed it.
The train trip to Bergen was such a beauty that even being a long one we enjoyed it very much.
The hotel in Bergen was very good. To stay near the Station was great. We did some tours in Bergen as well. We liked very much the city.
Most important of everything was that we had everything already booked, very well explained in details so we could enjoy every step of the tour. That made the trip with our granddaughter a special one.
She told her Mom that was the best trip ever.
Thanks again for having everything booked etc, it was wonderful.

I do recommend very much this tour and Baltic Travel.

We had the time of our lives.

Dear Daina

We had an absolutely wonderful trip to Tromso.  It was way above our expectations, particularly the weather which was solid sunshine every day, and Night!  The journey was good and on time.  We had a slight problem as it took a bit of time to collect luggage and the taxi had left however I rang them and they sent a taxi straight away.  The hotel was lovely and the staff very helpful.  The food in the hotel was very good.  I found out that we could have upgraded our room to have a harbour view but the hotel was full and we could not do that.  Perhaps you could point that out to clients when they book as they may prefer to upgrade.  We had planned a couple of walks and used the bus to get there.  The buses were very good and frequent.  Unfortunately we did not manage to use the cable car.  The morning we went there was a huge queue and we did not want to waste time queuing.  We found out later from the Tourist Information Office (also very helpful) that there were 3,000 people from 2 cruise ships in Tromso that day!   no wonder there was a queue.  We were unable to fit it in during the rest of our stay.

The all day tour that you organised was fantastic.  The guides were wonderful company, very knowledgeable and organised.  We were with some lovely people on the day and we learnt so much about the country and the culture of the area. The scenery was spectacular and it was a very special day.  We also enjoyed the trip on the rib-boat, a bit scary at first but great fun.  Unfortunately we were all set to go on the evening of Thursday 13 and waiting in our hotel lobby before 11pm.  When no-one turned up I rang the company at 11.20 and apparently their arrangements had changed from those on our letter and they now leave at 10pm from the Radisson Blu Hotel.  Fortunately they could take us on the Friday which was ok but it did mean that we had not done much on the Thursday evening because we thought we were going on the boat and we also had an early rise on the Saturday for our day excursion.  However  we had a wonderful trip on the boat and  to see the midnight sun out at sea was quite an experience.
There was so much more that we would like to have done in Tromso but we did not have time!  Also because the weather was so wonderful we wanted to be outdoors.  I don't know if I told you but I lived in Stavanger in the 1970's and my sister visited me then.  The weather was also glorious so she is now of the view that the sun always shines in Norway.
We would like to thank you for arranging our trip, a holiday we will never forget.
Best wishes
Barbara

Hello Inga,

Just to say we got back on Thursday from our trip to northern Norway which you arranged for us. We had an amazing time, scenery was spectacular every day on our journey. Accommodation was warm and very comfortable with wonderful choice of food every day at breakfast time, the roads were a joy to drive with very little traffic around. We had some beautiful sunshine but not at the North Cape. Unfortunately it was heavy rain, wind and low cloud but we were able to get our photo at “The Globe”. Despite the weather, it was a very magical place to be on our special day. So, Inga, thank you very much for all the organising you did and also for the champagne in our room in Bodo when we first arrived - lovely surprise to start off the trip.

Best regards,
Chris & John
