Norwegians are known for their high costs when it comes to accommodations, traditional Norwegian food, their transport, plus the cost of travelling. Baltic Travel Company organises a wide range of holidays to Northern Europe that come with financial protection and flights included that would suit any budget while meeting your travel plans and budget, whether you want to see the Norwegian capital or external sites and famous fjords.

The cost depends on the destination you would like to visit, the length of your stay and the season. A city break in Oslo for 4 days can start from £550 per person, but if you would like to go on an escorted holiday to the Scandinavian Capitals & Norwegian Fjords for 14 days, then the cost can be as high as £6,295 per person.

How Many Days to Go on a Trip to Norway

If you wish to go on a brief city break, then minimum 3 nights would suit you well, especially if you would like to visit the country's capital. You will have plenty of time to stop by the main tourist attractions, such as the National Theatre, Oslo Opera House or the Viking Ship Museum.

However, if you would like to see the incredible natural features and dramatic landscapes that Norway is famous for, then a minimum 5 days stay will allow you to sightsee much more. You will then have the time to discover Norways' rugged peaks and take advantage of the hiking opportunities that raw nature offers.

Baltic Travel Company's holiday package Norway in a Nutshell Tour takes 5 days / 4 nights during which you will see the most beautiful scenery in Fjord Norway, and visit Oslo and Bergen. This is one of the most popular holiday packages to Norway.

How to Tour Norway

The best way to tour Norway would be by train, since train travel is most effective, as it is both faster and less expensive compared to bus services.

The Flåmsbana Railway was deemed to be the greatest train ride in the World. This 20km adventure is about climbing mountains past deep ravines and along tall waterfalls to enjoy an unmatched experience. A train trip will allow you explore dramatic scenery without feeling too adventurous if you are not an outdoor person, so it is suitable for everybody.

What is There to Do in Norway

Choose one of our Norway cruises and explore the deep, clear waters of the majestic fjords or enjoy a Norway fly-drive holiday winding through spectacular mountain passes, featuring some of Europe's most dramatic waterfalls and glaciers. Or pick one of our Norway trips packages to go back in time visiting medieval churches and old wooden towns or hike cabin-to-cabin through some of the best hiking trails in the world. These trips offer the best experience during summer months for both locals and international tourists.

You can play golf under the midnight sun, ski down some of the best pistes in Europe or watch the Northern Lights in Norway draw their luminous curtains across the clear night skies and end the day sleeping on reindeer skins in a hotel made of ice.

Because of the vast coastline, seafood is an important component of Norwegian cuisine that you must experience on a trip to Norway. From fresh salmon to dried cod, it makes sense to try one of the many seafood meals that are offered on your trip. Norwegian lambs have been a large part of the meals menu and the grilled meat is delicate and succulent despite the unspoiled habitats and rich vegetation where the grazing sheep live. Their slow-cured lamb legs that have a long history dated to the time when the meat was cooked with fresh mountain air for long winters. Norway aims to achieve sustainable animal feed production and therefore offers some unusual dishes, like smalahove which includes sheep heads and salves.

Norwegian is very family-friendly in many ways, even if you don't speak their official language. With plenty of farm, theme parks & day excursions for everybody, we have something suitable for every holiday and every season. Some cities can be easily reached by walking and offer relaxation and stress-free excursions to museums and attractions.

There are also beaches and waterways, science centres and snowy activities that offer excitement, education and fun for a really invigorating holiday. It's no surprise Norway has some amazing outdoor activities. Mountains extend across all country and there are plenty of great places to go hiking, and practice sports all year long.

When is the Best time to visit Norway

In Norway springs and summers there are plenty of outdoor festivals that make it worthwhile visiting if it is what you are after. Nevertheless, Norway is fascinating on all seasons. During winter time, especially from October to March you get witness the Northern Lights, as the sky is getting a little darker at night creating the perfect atmosphere for you to enjoy such a distinctive natural phenomenon.

A trip to the north during summer allows you enjoy the midnight sun, another fascinating natural phenomenon when the sun never sets. In the northwestern part of the Arctic Circle the winter months are never entirely dark, giving Norwegian the nickname of ‘The Land of the Midnight Moon ’. July and July are the best months to visit Norway with the warmest time of year when you get to experience the famous night sun that creates the ideal environment for hiking, cycling, and kayaking at any time of the day or night.

In the winter, the spectacular landscape of Norway is mostly covered under a blanket of ice and snow. This is a special time for those who enjoy winter sports like downhill and cross country skiing, snow shoeing, snowmobiling, dog sledding and ice skating.

Dear Laura,

Sorry it's taken me a while to reply. What a fantastic trip you provided for us!
Thank you for ensuring our dates & requirements were met prior to booking.
Everything went incredibly well. All the connections (train, bus, boat) were spot on. Peace of mind having seats pre-booked. Thank you.
The extra day in Oslo enabled us to take the ferry to see the Viking Museum & Folk Museum & I would recommend this extra day.
The hotel in Oslo was excellent for location & the breakfast was first class, our rooms were lovely.
The hotel in Flåm I would say was ok in terms of standard, perhaps a little tired. But again the breakfast was good & staff very friendly.
The hotel in Bergen was good too. Perhaps they could replicate the excellent breakfast provided at their sister hotel in Oslo? Again location was perfect. Staff excellent.
We were blessed with good weather & this ensured a really special holiday.
Thank you so much. I would definitely recommend your company to friends & family.

Kind regards. Judy

Hi Inga,

Thanks for your efforts in arranging the trip, I had a excellent time.

For a start I've never been on a plane with so many visibly excited adults when we landed! It's not often when you get off the plane that pretty much everyone is stood on the tarmac taking pictures already.  The Coal Miner's Cabin was a comfy stay for the night, with a great breakfast in the morning and lunch (with time for a wander into Longyearbyen).  The "city tour" was nice, particularly the Svalbard Museum, which was a great overview to the islands.

The boat being relatively small was good as you got to know a few people well during the trip which was nice.  The food was really good for every meal.  Being an older boat it had a nice classic feel, although it did mean it was a bit noisy.  The first night was all travelling, so not the most restful, but after that we were stationary a couple of times at night, and you got used to the noise.  My cabin was 'cosy' but as expected the only time I spent in there was to sleep, and the other facilities were good.

The organisation on board, the landings and the guides were fantastic.  The guide we had was really friendly and informative, and made sure we safe.  That we did see a Polar Bear was definitely down to their efforts - a tiny off white speck on the landscape is not something you'd notice unless you knew what you were looking for and really paying attention.  We were also lucky enough to see a Blue Whale on our final leg back to Longyearbyen.  All the landings were varied with little talks about ecology, history, geology etc.

I was really grateful to be one of the people getting the flight the next afternoon, rather than the one that meant you had to be off the boat at 1am!  Instead I got a decent night sleep, and a chance for another wander round Longyearbyen, which is very different when there's not a massive cruise ship in port.

The flight back to Oslo was a bit odd with the stop at Tromso; where you have to get off, do passports, collect baggage, walk through customs, check in baggage and get back on the same plane!

The hotel in Oslo was great - nice room.  And I did a nice walking tour around the main sights of Oslo.

Overall a fantastic trip.  I've attached a few photos.

Thanks

James

Dear Laura,

Thank you for following up with me.

The whole trip was amazing and among the best travel experiences I have had.  Your detailed planning was incredibly helpful and I made good use of the Vamoos app, as well.  The hotels were very nice and meals were quite tasty.  I was surprised and happy to see how allergy-aware the hotel restaurants are.  Our travel partners from Australia were a perfect match for the three of us from Minnesota; we really connected and I'm certain we will stay in touch in the future.

What was most outstanding about our adventure was our guide, Petter.  We really hit the jackpot with him!  He was so conscientious, knowledgeable, and remarkably kind.  In addition, he took into consideration our ability level as a group and went out of his way to give us other experiences, like visiting a Stave church along the way, going to a cider tasting in Balestrand, a stop at Aurlandskoen (The Original Pennyloafer store), and hiking to a summer farm house near the Prest summit for tea and goat cheese with jam and pancakes!  He's a gem and I would highly, highly recommend him to anyone wanting a meaningful Norwegian experience.

My only criticism would be that we were given many opportunities to swim along the way with the warm temperatures and since you had specifically told us we would not need swimming suits Jane and I didn't bring one.  That was disappointing, especially since we aren't used to the culture of diving in with undergarments.  Definitely a missed opportunity.

There were many trip highlights; I'll try to share just a couple with you.  Despite Steve's mishap and my bike frame too large for my petite size, our biking day was incredible fun.  There may be an e-bike under the Christmas tree this year ~ I loved it!  Ironically, I also loved the day with the worst weather; climbing the Prest summit in cutting rains and high winds was exhilarating.  Gratefully, Petter captured that moment on video, which I'll try to send.

I will send a few photos in a separate email, as I’m having difficulty attaching them to this one.

Thank you for your efforts in planning and coordinating a most remarkable trip.  The next time I travel to the Baltic region, I will return there with Baltic Travel Company, no doubt about it!

Sincerely,

Sheryl

What a wonderful trip. You did such an excellent job with all of our arrangements. We loved that all meals were included.

We were there during very hot weather and the hotels were not air conditioned so that was tough. Hard to sleep. Every hotel should at least have a fan in the room.

Thon hotel Bergen:

Great location and loved the morning buffet. Staff at the hotel really good. Nice room.

Myrkdalen:

Ok but not great. I would rather have been in the fjords the entire trip. This location felt very touristy and commercial.

Kayaking was the #1 thing on my list and the few hours we spent in this activity were spectacular. Not enough time though and we shared the activity with another group. I snagged a single but all other kayaks were 2 person. Not good.

Ballestrand:

Loved the hotel. Loved the entire experience here.

The day we left here we had the morning free but nothing was open. Wanted to visit the aquarium and museum but no chance. Should have left in the morning.

Rib boat was a rainy cold mess. Saw nothing due to weather and sitting in the back of the boat could not see around other people. There was a rib boat with stadium seating that we saw. This would have been much better. This activity would only be good on a not rainy day.
