Fishing in Finland

  Fishing by Samperi Hotel

Finland has more water than any other country: 10% of the country is water and it is known as the "land of a thousand lakes". There are opportunites for every angler. Whether your choice is spinning, fly-fishing, trolling or ice fishing: it's all here. Drive out of one of Finland's lovely cities, including its vibrant capital, Helsinki, and find great fishing or fly to the wilds of Finnish Lapland to drop a line through the ice..

River Tornionjoki is the largest free-flowing salmon river in Europe and runs naturally along the border between Finland and Sweden. You can troll plugs from rowing boats or fish from the banks. There are dozens of rapids and pools along the course and you can follow the river all the way up to Lapland and its tributaries. Kukkolankoski, Matkakoski and Vuennononkoski: even the rapids' names make you want to fish.

The Hossa area provides a wide range of opportunties for the keen angler and hiking through the pine woods or just messing about in boats is a great way of enjoying the Finnish countryside. A Nature Centre has all the information you will need, as well as a cafe for the inner person. This area has naturally strong perch and whitefish stocks with introduced trout. The river is approximately 5 kilometres long with ten rapids and natural grayling aplenty.

We know Finland and we will take you there.

Salmon Fishing in Finland

This guided salmon fishing trip takes place on the River Muonionjoki located in western Lapland and includes required fishing gear, accommodation in a cottage, as well as all meals, which will be prepared by your guide, who is also a professional cook. Fishing spots are carefully selected based on a number of years of good experiences in quiet, wilderness sections of the river.

More about Fishing in Finland

Ice-fishing is Finnish meditation. No licence is required; all you need is warm clothing and the time to sit on a frozen lake and wait for the perch, the national fish of inland, to bite. Make your hole with an ice auger (you may need an extension); drop your fine line down the hole and sit back on your ice stool: the peace is tangible. The only disturbance is when the fish catches your bait.
