Autumn in Iceland

Iceland is an island gem all year round, but autumn is especially precious. Starting in late August and lasting until the end of October or early November, Autumn, or the Fall as our transatlantic cousins call this season of warm fires and kaleidoscopic foliage, gives you the opportunity to enjoy warmer weather and better prices for the same great experiences.

The weather is never predictable on Iceland, but all year round it is warmer than one might imagine, due to its location on the Gulf Stream and astride one of the most active geo-thermal sites in the world. Thus this country brings the visitor hot springs, geysers, volcanoes and even the occasional earthquake, all without presenting any serious threat. Iceland sits immediately between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. Watch the earth move as these vast forces appear at the surface in Pingvellir National Park.

Though Autumn brings colder days, it also may give you the first fall of snow and your first views of the Northern Lights, Mother Nature's very own light show. Combine this with the magical colours of Autumn as leaves turn red, yellow and orange and this makes Autumn the ideal time to find your personal Iceland.
