Iceland Northern Lights Packages and Arctic Holiday Getaways

  Northern Lights by Iceland.is

Travelling to Iceland over the winter period is an extraordinary adventure, visiting the land of fire and ice during the peak season when the famous Northern Lights make an appearance in the night sky. Guests can join expeditions to travel to the heart of ancient volcanoes and see some of the world’s most protected Arctic species in this beautiful, pristine environment while seeing the natural wonder of the Aurora first-hand.

Iceland is one of the best places to see the Aurora light show. The extended hours of darkness, snowy conditions, and stunning landscapes create a backdrop where guests can make the most of Icelandic winter sports and outdoor activities during the day and relax and soak in the spectacle in the evening.

Our Iceland Northern Lights holiday packages are designed to offer unforgettable travel experiences, with options to choose from family-friendly festive holidays for little ones, romantic escapes into the Icelandic wilderness, or active outdoor adventures with everything from husky sledding and wildlife cruises to snowmobile rides and cross-country skiing.

More about Iceland Northern Lights Packages and Arctic Holiday Getaways

Iceland’s landscapes are astonishingly beautiful and contrast with the vibrant atmosphere in Reykjavik, the capital, where guests can enjoy the culture, nightlife, fine dining, and heritage. Many guests start their Northern Lights holiday in the city and have free time to explore before travelling onward away from the light pollution.

Over the winter period the Christmas markets, concerts, decorations and activities make this an amazing start to a magical Northern Lights holiday experience, immersing yourself in the festive spirit, charm and celebratory atmosphere.

On arrival in the Icelandic countryside, the diversity of the natural terrain is unparalleled. It is home to countless rare and protected species, from Arctic foxes to orcas, reindeer, whales, and, of course, the renowned Icelandic horses. Guests can indulge and unwind in one of Iceland's many geothermal hot springs or head to one of the incredible black sand beaches to watch the Northern Lights dancing over the horizon.

The thrill of glacier hiking, ice cave guided tours, and seeing the Aurora against snow-covered landscapes, vast waterfalls, and soaring mountain peaks is fantastic, and we'd advise guests to book early where possible, given the sustained high levels of interest in Icelandic Northern Lights packages.

Expert Advice on Planning Your Iceland Northern Lights Adventure

Iceland’s enviable location ensures the Northern Lights are visible for a prolonged period. They can begin in September and make appearances through to March and mid-April, when the polar night season provides a blanket of darkness. The light show peaks around the winter and spring equinoxes, when the increase in solar activity in the Earth's atmosphere makes the Aurora Borealis brighter and more distinct.

If you’re unsure of the ideal package or itinerary for you and your party, we would suggest you browse our Iceland Northern Lights trips and tours, and make a short-list of the must-try experiences, whether you'd love to visit Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon in person, wish to experience the wild beauty of Thingvellir National Park and the Gullfoss waterfall in the Golden Circle, or want to escape to a tranquil, romantic wilderness lodge to see the lights with your loved one.

Our smart holiday package filters also allow you to search by Iceland holiday types and popularity. This is a great way to see the Northern Lights adventures that other guests have reserved and to compare trips by departure dates, availability, or the duration of your stay.

The Baltic Travel Company team has years of expertise, and we have visited each destination and location in person. This ensures we can offer tailored advice and recommendations or customise our packages to meet your requirements – please get in touch, and we will be delighted to assist.
