The Archipelago: A Traveler’s Delight

The Archipelago boasts incredible natural and manmade beauty. The glory of the sea and the many islands dotting it is incomparable, complemented with the unique flora and fauna of the region. The individual cultures and history of each of the islands in the Archipelago create a wonderful mixture of many vibrant individual personalities, and one of the premier activities for tourists in the region is to visit these islands and study their culture and heritage first hand. The stark natural beauty of the region is clearly evident. Since tourism is one of the premier industries and means of livelihood of the indigenous people, great efforts have been made to beautify the place and preserve its natural beauty.

Eating out in the archipelago is a unique experience since one can sample fresh seafood like never before. The staple (what locals eat) food of the region coupled with the freshly caught fish makes the cuisine distinctively delicious and mouthwatering.

The beautiful surroundings of the archipelago are complemented by the quaint, small town atmosphere in the islands. One can observe the fishermen and farmers at work or spend time at the potters’ workshops and watch them work at the wheel, and even buy some of the goods to take back as souvenirs.

Bird watching is a popular activity in the archipelago since swarms of migratory birds from all over can be observed in the region. Springtime is the best season to catch a glimpse of the various varieties of birds that visit the region.

The Aland Islands of the Archipelago

The Aland Islands are a top tourist attraction of the Finnish archipelago. The Fasta Island is the main island of the bunch, and most of the population live here. Swedish, Finnish and English are spoken in the region. The natural scener,y along with the opportunities for sightseeing, bicycling, dining out, etc. make the Aland Islands very popular among tourists and visitors. The islands are also known for the several churches and museums that are found on them.

Visiting the Archipelago National Park and attending the Midsummer Festival are other recommended activities for visitors. You can choose the island hopping itinerary offered by the Baltic Travel Company to visit the different islands in the region.
