Kalemegdan is the largest park and the most important historical monument in Belgrade. Above the junction of the River Sava and the Danube, it includes the historic Belgrade Fortress, famous amongst travellers. You’ll also find a museum, a zoo and walkways with wonderful river views.
Nis was known by the Celts as the City of the Nymphs. Mediana is a superb 4th century AD site of Roman architecture with the first Christian Church of 378 AD. Nis Fortress, built in 1723, is the finest example of a Turkish fort in the Balkans.
