Overview:

Experience the Northern Lights in the outermost regions of Finland and Norway – Saariselkä to Tromsø including an expedition to the North Cape Plateau. This tour will give you the best chances of hunting the Northern Lights in many different locations and environments. Along the way you also have the opportunity to try a variety of winter activities such as Husky sledding, reindeer safari, overnighting in a snow hotel, snowmobiling and much more.

Holiday price is from £ 4,310 per person based on availability and 2 persons sharing a standard double/twin room.

Single supplement is £ 1,120 per person

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Helsinki 

Upon arrival at Helsinki Airport, make your way your hotel and enjoy afternoon at leisure, before meeting with your tour leader. 

Overnight: Sokos Vaakuna Helsinki (or similar) 

Day 2: Helsinki 

Breakafst at the hotel. Discover Helsinki, the capital of Finland on a 3-hour city tour. Your local guide will show you the most famous sights. Afternoon and evening at leisure. 

Overnight: Sokos Vaakuna Helsinki (or similar) 

Day 3: Helsinki - Kemi 

Breakfast at the hotel. We walk to Helsinki Train Station and board ypur northbound train towards Kemi. Journey through magical landscapes with endless snow-covered forests and lakes covered with ice. Arrive to Kemi late afternoon and transfer to your hotel in Kemi. Enjoy dinner at the hotel and spend a night in a glass villa with a view of the starry northern sky.

Day 4: Kemi - Rovaniemi - Saariselka 

Breakfast at the hotel. Morning leisure in Kemi, with the opportunity to take an optional snowmobile safari, husky safari or one of the many other exciting excursions offered. In the afternoon, transfer to the port of Kemi and board the majestic Arctic Icebreaker Sampo vessel that will take you on a truly unique cruise, crushing through the thick ice on the Gulf of Bothania. Travelling further north through Finnish Lapland and towards the Arctic Circle, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant in Rovaniemi before continuing to Saariselka and the Northern Lights Village.

Day 5: Husky Safari & Northern Lights Sleigh Ride

Breakfast. Today you will enjoy a husky safari through the snowy forests and fells. Driving a team of huskies over the white fells is an experience you will never forget. In the evening you will visit an Aurora Camp by one of the local lakes. If we are lucky and the sky is clear, experience the fascinating Northern Lights.

Day 6: Saariselka - Inari - Karasjok & Sami Culture (190 km/118 mls)

Leave Saariselkä in the morning and begin your coach travel, with a stop in Inari at the Siida Sami Museum included, before proceeding across the Norwegian border to the Sami Capital, Karasjok. Here you will be able to learn about the fascinating Sami culture and even visit the Sami Parliament, Samediggi. Spend the night in Karasjok.

Leave Saariselkä in the morning and begin your coach travel, with a stop in Inari at the Siida Sami Museum included, before proceeding across the Norwegian border to the Sami Capital, Karasjok. Here you will be able to learn about the fascinating Sami culture and even visit the Sami Parliament, 'Samediggi'. Spend the night in Karasjok.

Overnight: Scandic Karasjok (or similar)

Day 7: Karasjok - Honningsvåg - North Cape (265 km/165 mls)

After a restful sleep, you will continue the tour towards the North Cape, which is situated through the subsea North Cape tunnel and located on Magerøya Island. You will visit the North Cape cliff (weather conditions permitting) where you are treated to expansive views at the northernmost point of Europe. Have a local dinner and spend the night in Honningsvåg.

Day 8: Honningsvåg - Alta  (210 km/130 mls)

Today we will head southwards along the Porsanger Fjord en route to ‘The Northern Lights City of Norway’, Alta. Spend the afternoon exploring the Alta Museum to gain some more knowledge about the local history and significance of the Northern Lights, and perhaps take another Northern Lights safari. In the evening, you have the opportunity to upgrade to an overnight stay in the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel (supplement applies).

Day 9: Alta - Tromsø & Northern Lights Chase (400 km/248 mls)

Journey along the arctic fjords to Tromsø, commonly renowned for being the starting point of many expeditions to the North Pole, and explore this cultural arctic city throughout the afternoon before another Northern Lights safari in the evening, where a dinner will be included.

Overnight: Clarion Collestion the Edge (or similar)

Day 10: Tromsø & Day at Leisure

For your final full day explore Tromsø at your own pace, with the option for some more outdoor activities such as snomobiling or husky sledding.

Day 11: Farewell Arctic Norway

After breakfast, take your own airport transfers to Tromso Airport in time for your return flight.
