Overview:

The Turku archipelago is one of Finland’s most stunning natural phenomena.  It is a series of 20,000 islands stretching out into the sea from the city of Turku in south-west Finland.

Driving a circular route around the main islands is made easy, and exciting, by a system of local ferry services, constantly going back and forth acting like bridges. As well as the fun of the ferries, there are also picturesque harbour villages to visit, and the true peace of the nature.

The tour starts and ends in Helsinki, the trendy capital of Finland, where you stay your first and last nights and pick up your car.

Holiday price is from £ 995 per person based on availability and sharing a double or twin room.

Departure Dates:

Departure dates Departure Arrival               Arrive
June - August London / Manchester Helsinki Daily

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Helsinki

Pick up your car at the airport and drive to your centrally located 3* hotel. Enjoy an afternoon of leisure in Finland's trendy capital city (parking not included in package price).

Day 2: Helsinki - Turku via Fiskars and Tammisaari (~ 180 km)

Depart from your hotel in Helsinki towards the west cost of Finland. On the way you can visit the town of Tammisaari, with its lovely old town and the former iron works of Fiskars, with many handicraft shops. Turku is a bustling summer town on the south-west coast of Finland, with the River Aura cutting right through the heart of the town. There is plenty to see, including a medieval castle and cathedral, and a wide selection of excellent cars, cafes, and restaurants. Overnight stay in Turku centre BB basis – lots of nearby restaurants to choose from for dinner

Day 3: Turku - Heponiemi (in Kustavi municipality, ~ 65 km)

Free time in Turku. Note: today’s one ferry ride departs at 15:00, approximately 45km from Turku (around 3 hours riding time) so you need to leave early enough from Turku in order to catch this ferry.  Continue from Turku via nearby Naantali. Soon after Naantali the islandhopping begins, first with a stunning ride across the bridge to Merimasku and then take a break from driving with a relaxing 45 minute ferry journey. Continue to your overnight accommodation by the sea.  Overnight in Kustavi region in a guest house.

Day 4: Heponiemi (Kustavi) - Iniö - Houtskär - Korpoo - Nauvo (~ 60 km)

Today is the main island-hopping day with seven ferry journeys reaching the very heart of the archipelago region. The tiny peaceful island of Iniö is the remotest spot of the trip. From Houtskär take a half hour ferry ride to Korpoo, where from it’s a short ferry hop to Nauvo, where you stay overnight in a wonderful B&B, a former barn converted to a guest house located in the beautiful nature. Overnight stay with dinner on Nauvo island.

Day 5: Nauvo - Rymättylä - Naantali (~ 45 km)

Take the ferry north from Nauvo back to the mainland and continue via Rymättylä to Naantali, an idyllic seaside village with cobbled streets and old wooden houses around a bustling harbour. Accomodation in a spa hotel in Naantali, with plenty of local restaurants to choose from for dinner.

Day 6: Naantali - Helsinki (via Tampere)

Free time in Naantali, or in Turku according to your preference. Naantal is located only 13km from Turku. Drive back to Helsinki. There is the possibility to drive via Tampere (2 hours from Turku) and visit places such as the Amusement Park of Särkänniemi in Tampere. Tampere is the third largest city in Finland, located beautifully by a lake area. Driving distance from Tampere to Helsinki is 176 km /around 2 hours). Overnight stay in Helsinki centre.

Day 7: Departure from Helsinki

Drop off the car at the airport for your departure flight.

Package Includes:

  • Direct flights from London or Manchester to Helsinki (flights from other UK airports can be arranged upon request)
  • 1 piece of check-in luggage per traveler (up to 23 kg)

Dear Saija

We had a truly wonderful holiday in Scandinavia. Thank you for organising such a successful itinerary. Your comprehensive notes with directions and maps enabled us to travel without anxiety. All the transfers worked smoothly and we enjoyed exploring the three cities.

The hotels you chose were a triumph particularly the Indigo in Helsinki and Berns Hotel in Stockholm. The service at both was excellent as was the food. Nothing was too much trouble. The Radison in Turku was fine for one night but not special - very large and not as plush or individual, inevitably so.

We would certainly recommend you to our friends and would use your services again in the future. I am mulling over the idea of a holiday to Tallin and St Petersburg next year ... so watch this space!

With our grateful thanks for organising this holiday for us at such short notice, working around our booked flights.

Regards,

Sue and Quentin S

Car Rental

You can rent a car, as long as you have a valid EU or international driver's license. Most cars will have manual transmission.

Transportation

Railway mostly serves domestic routes and is used as an easy and quick way to get from the capital to major cities of the country. There are some international routes, like to Moscow and St. Petersburg, but time spent on the way will be quite long.

Buses are one of the most convenient ways to travel between the Baltic States. Eurolines will get you between Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn. One way tickets will cost £ 15 - £ 20 and approximate travel time is 5 hours between the cities. Ticket reservations in advance are recommended.

Taxis are the quickest and most convenient way of travelling round the city. You'll find them located close to the main hotels. Usually it's quite easy to catch a taxi on the street, however, it's much better and safer to order one by phone. Taxi costs in all of the Baltic countries and Poland are approximately the same and a ride in the centre of the city will cost you approx £ 5 - £ 7.  Taxis in Finland and Russia are considerably more expensive.  It is always a good idea to get your hotel to book a taxi for you and ask approximately how much the trip will cost before you get in.

We would not recommend you to take public transportation within the city, as it's usually crowded and it may cause you unnecessary anxiety about where to stop.
