Kurhotel Skodsborg in Denmark with Havgus

Posted on March 27th, 2018.

Yearning for a spa holiday? How above experiencing a traditional Kurhotel – like in the olden times? Look no further than Kurhotel Skodsborg.

Tagterassen i sol

This spa and fitness oriented hotel is located on the Danish coast overlooking Oeresund  which separates Denmark from Sweden, and is approximately a thirty minute drive from the centre of Copenhagen. With a serene setting and plethora of amenities offered, the hotel is well suited for a much needed break and offers ultimate relaxation.

When planning your stay at the hotel it is possible to choose how much or little you would like to do during your time at the hotel, but there are also retreats available to those who are after a more guided and organised experience. For example, the DE-TOX retreat includes spa and gym access, a full body massage, a professional nutritional consultation and your choice of acupuncture or reflexology. However, it is easy to book in advance any spa treatments or fitness classes of your choice.

A typical day at Kurhotel Skodsborg would be a little something like this: Waking up to the soothing sound of the water and doing an invigorating morning yoga class before heading to the Brasserie for a breakfast buffet packed with chia pudding, pastries, charcuterie and eggs and bacon made to order. Following breakfast with a walk down to the waterfront is the perfect way to prepare for the rest of the day in the spa and fitness centre. Equipped with multiple steam rooms, saunas and salt rooms, it is incredibly easy to spend the day lazing in these or in the hydro-pool,  but an absolute must is trying the ‘SaunaGus’. This is essentially aromatherapy in the sauna, where the leader of the session immerses the sauna with essential oil infused steam by swinging towels around, and then takes everyone either to the water or an eight degree bath outside the spa for a quick immersion. The ‘SaunaGus’ has benefits for relaxation, circulation and energy levels, and while you will definitely not want to get into the water at first, it’s an incredibly refreshing experience.

The spa also offers treatments that can be booked at any time ( but it is advisable to book as early as possible to ensure you get to do everything you want ), dependent on availability, including facials, manicures and pedicures, as well as stress-relieving massages and facials using the various technologies available. Another stand out treatment offered at the spa is Craniosacral Therapy (CST) for any stress-related problems, sleep and concentration difficulties, and is based on osteopathic treatments.

After a long, hard day of relaxing, there are three restaurants to choose from in the hotel for dinner. The Lobby Restaurant offers a more relaxed setting, with a menu filled with healthy and delicious options, such as the burger with sweet potato fries. Dinner at The Brasserie is filled with refined classic Danish dishes, including a lot of fish and incredible produce. Finally, Chef Erik Kroun’s restaurant has views over Oresund and offers a gourmet experience, however this must be booked in advance.

Overall, the experience at Kurhotel Skodsborg is an incredibly relaxing and flexible one, and I would highly recommend trying as many treatments and fitness classes as you have the energy for.
