From Luleaa to Kiruna

Posted on January 23rd, 2018.

During my holiday in Sweden, after a short stop over in Stockholm, I landed just south of the Arctic circle in the small town of Luleaa.

Clarion Sense hotel in Luleaa

Use all your senses when you explore the city on the coast of the gulf of Bothnia. In Luleaa, both city life and outdoor living are always close by. How about hotels with spa facilities, gourmet restaurants, cafes and theatres. Take a tour boat out into the archipelago, rent a cottage and sample the island life.

Brandon/Pinebaylodge

In Brandon you can go from enjoying good food made with local ingredients at a bustling open air restaurant to finding peace and tranquility by the sea in a matter of minutes from the lodge.

Sorbyn lodge

Located on a beautiful lake near the small village of Sorbyn, this venue has a variety of accommodations.

The hotel boasts a restaurant of high class which is renowned for its fine dining. You will experience an excellent personal service.

Experience the feeling and pleasure of a genuine Swedish Lapland sauna with a swim in the cool spring lake of Vittrasket. COLD :).

Sorbyn lodge offers a wide range of activities in the winter (dog sledding ,ice fishing, skating, cross country ski and summer (rafting and a special mention to the fishing opportunities ).

Tree hotel

Living up among the tall trees in the pine forest of Northern Sweden has never been so easy. From the Mirrorcube to the bird’s nest or to the luxury 7th room, it will be a unique experience. Britta’s pensionat will offer all kinds of local Swedish delicacies.

Stora Sjofallet/ Saltoluokta/ Sarek

Stora Sjofallet is a national park in Norrbotten County,  just a few miles above the Arctic circle .The national park is the third largest in Sweden and part of the Laponian area which is Unesco world heritage site.

After a short ferry trip across the lake , Saltoluokta lodge will offer you a wide range of accommodation and is a very popular starting point for Sarek National Park visitors.

Stora Sjofallet Mountain Lodge

Stora Sjofallet (great waterfall in Swedish) used to be an awesome 40m waterfall. The volume has reduced somewhat since  a power station has been built but still impressive and worth hikking.

This lodge is ideally located , I would suggest to stay here as a base camp for all your summer or winter activities and walking distance to the famous Naturum Nature Centre.

Camp Ripan

After a good breakfast , I hit the road toward Kiruna with a stop over at Gallivare, second largest iron-ore mine in Sweden .Various activities are offered here such as downhill ski but also a visit of the mine can be organised .

Two hours later I arrived at Camp Ripan where I had the chance to experienced one of the best meal I had during my stay in Sweden. Chef’cooking is based on local culinary traditions spicing them with creative tastes, colours and forms.

Camp Ripan is probabaly the most attractive  resort (large choice of cabins, good  panel of activities, marvellous spa/sauna and one of the best restaurant in the region).

ICE HOTEL JUKKASJARVI

Few miles away from Camp Ripan , I arrived at the ICE HOTEL for a unique experience.

ICEHOTEL 365, where the ice and cold can be experienced throughout the year or  the seasonal Ice Hotel that returns to the river in spring .

ICE HOTEL is all about ice and creativity with art as the result.

It was time for me to leave the marvellous Swedish Lapland and I really recommend to come here, not only in Winter but Summer or Autumn can also bring some memorable days.
