Posted on May 16th, 2014.

Have you ever considered visiting somewhere different for Thanksgiving. Why not take your family and explore some of the world for a totally new Thanksgiving experience?

A friend of mine from Florida told me she and 12 friends are planning a Thanksgiving trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights, Whales, Geysers, Waterfalls, Hot springs, the Blue Lagoon etc. and what an amazing way to spend Thanksgiving but what an amazing Nature there is to explore. Here we cover a small section of the highlights that you can expect to see in Iceland.

Iceland is a very small country, with just over 300,000 inhabitants, recently Iceland has become one of the major destinations that travellers flock to in order to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights. Over the last couple of years the Northern Lights have been at their brightest in 50 years! To discover more about the Northern Lights we recommend reading our definitive guide to the Northern Lights.

However the Northern Lights is not all that Iceland has to offer you can also experience natural wonders such as hot springs and waterfalls that are so beautiful you cant help but stare in amazement.

Apart from the natural springs locations such as the Blue Lagoon which is more man-made are amazing and very enjoyable for all ages. The thermal water here is full of minerals so be  sure to tie up your hair to avoid it stiffening from the natural minerals.

Who doesnt enjoy a bit of horse riding. What better way to connect with nature than going horse riding in the snow. Also dont forget that the Vikings spent a lot of time in Iceland too and there are many examples of old Viking boats displayed all over the country.

Still want more nature. Then you can get close to some of the oceans most magnificent creatures and go whale watching off the coast.
