More about Kazan Cathedral

The Kazan Cathedral architecture was designed by Andrey Voronikhin. Voronikhin took inspiration from St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, Italy and France were big influencers on Russian architecture at the time. After Napoleon's invasion of Russia in 1812 and the end of the Patriotic War, the cathedral was repurposed to serve as a memorial to Russia's victory over Napoleon.
