Skiing in Sweden

  By Harriniva

Sweden presents some wonderful opportunities for the ski season, with a wide range of ski areas. With over 1,000 kilometres of winter wonderland slopes and more than 600 lifts and mountains reaching up to 1,274 metres high, Swedish ski resorts have everything the skier or snow-boarder needs for a memorable ski holiday.

Swedish Ski Resorts

For those of you that like your skiing with a good dose of entertainment in a cosmopolitan environment, try 'Are' in North Sweden. 91 kilometres of pristine slopes and 31 lifts give a wide range of runs for skiers and snow-boarders, from beginners to advanced skiers, and families too.

More suited for the less experienced sports fan, Are offers 45 kilometres of easy run ski slopes and 38 kilometres of moderate ski slopes. This ski resort is open from mid-November to early May, so is great for that last run when other ski resorts have lost their snow. Fly to Ostersund or Trondheim or for a romantic Railway Holiday take the overnight sleeper from Gothenburg.

The whole family will enjoy Idre Fjall in Central Sweden and its 41 kilometres of slopes and 22 lifts. A wide range of restaurants catering for every taste and budget will ensure that healthy appetites are satisfied. Again, Ostersund is your nearest airport with great regular connections to the vibrant Swedish capital of Stockholm.

We know the pistes and we will take you there.

P.S. Click more for extreme skiing.

Nordic Winter Wonderland

If you want to experience the magic and wonders of the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis in Northern Scandinavia, the long winters are the best time to do it and conditions have rarely been so favourable, due to the magnetic energy of solar flares..

Enjoy our exciting program with a visit to the World famous Glass Igloo, an husky trip, Sami culture immersion, a tour of the Ice Hotel and last, but not least, an expedition to the Sampo Ice Breaker.

More about Skiing in Sweden

For the truly deeply mad ski fanatic, Riksgransen takes some topping as one of the best ski resorts. Situated in Swedish Lapland, 200 kilometres above the Arctic Circle, this ski area has hosted the Scandinavian Big Mountain Championships.

This ski resort has six ski lifts and 29 pistes, but you really come here for great off piste skiing experiences, and really good ski accommodation with top notch cooking and luxury rooms. Stockholm airport is your starting point and the flight north to Kiruna is 90 minutes. Heli-skiing is available for the inaccessible to become yours.
