More about Family Holidays Ukraine

Inhabited since 32,000 B.C., the Ukraine has experienced struggles and conflicts, being ruled over and occupied at various periods of its history by Lithuania, Poland, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire and, of course, Russia, which has, most recently, annexed the Crimea, scene of British battles and Florence Nightingale.

Its past encompasses fabled nations such as the Scythians, ancient Rome, the Goths and the Huns, each of whom has left its mark on the country. Now an economic powerhouse, Ukraine produces satellites and aircraft, both military and civll, and is renowned as a centre for information technology.

Kiev is the capital of Ukraine - modern usage has dropped 'the' as a prefix - and provides an ideal introduction to this historic land. With direct flights from London, Kiev is the most European of Ukraine's cities and has been a major trading centre since the Vikings took over the area in the 9th century. A modern Metro system makes travel easy and great architecture, food and people makes our itinerary worthwhile.
