Walking Finland

  By Inari Saariselka Tourism

Finland is a country of walkers. The remote forests of Finland provide perfect peace where the only sound is your feet on lush grass or your snow shoes crunching through fresh snow. Add in sauna and lakeside swimming for the ideal holiday. Winter is snow-covered ground and frozen lakes; summer is well-marked trails through deep forests, with the occasional marsh or swamp area, but nearly always flat to give you easy walking.

Travel to the far north-east to hike through the Kaiuuu region, including the Hossa National Park. Ancient spruce forest; pine heathland and wetlands rich in birds: the region has it all. A bear safari is an optional extra and expert guides are available throughout your Finnish experience. Accommodation is in a mixture of well-appointed trail huts and local guesthouses.

Take the hiking trails in the Hame region to find vast marshland areas and peaceful forest paths. Try a gentle 3.5 kilometre walk through the Folk Park of Saari in Forssa, with its farmhouse museum and cafe. Get there at the right time and join in the Midsummer Festivities. Maybe dive in the sparkling waters of Lake Suujarvi.

Or strike out on the 20 kilometre Niemisjarvi tour in Hameenlinna, striding through extensive bog areas, equipped with duck boards and signage, and stunning lake landscapes. Swim in Lake Alinen and bring your rod to catch dinner or just sit by the waters after a good day's hike.

We know Finland and we will take you there.
