St Isaac's Cathedral is also on our route as well as the Church of the Spilled Blood (entrances are not included today, only photo stops).

You will also visit the Peter and Paul Fortress, which guards the city of St Petersburg and is located on the island facing the Hermitage and River Neva. There, a son of Peter the Great, Prince Alexei, a famous pretender to the throne, Princess Tarakanova, the writer Radischev, Decembrists, narodniks and revolutionaries were held prisoners. The Peter and Paul Cathedral, designed by Tresini, contains the remains of Russian rulers since 1725.

After breakfast at the hotel, at 09.30 you will be taken by your guide to visit one of St Petersburg’s most prized Palaces. In the village of Pushkin (formally Tsarskoye Selo) 29 km south of St. Petersburg, is Catherine’s Summer Palace. The construction of the palace for the Empress Catherine started in 1717. A park in the French style was laid out around it and, in the middle of 18th century, Tsarskoye Selo became the official royal residence. This palace is famous for the ‘Amber Room’, now completely restored to its former glory. Not far from the Catherine's Palace there is the Lyceum where the great poet Alexander Pushkin studied. Daina

You were on my list to contact today .
I had a wonderful time on my trip.
The organisation was very smooth. Hotel excellent and the guide wonderful .
We had a busy few days but felt the programme was a good balance leaving some time to explore independently and having planned visits.
I would like to thank you Daina for your help.  This was my first solo travelling trip and I am sure it will not be the last .

Hi Daina,

Thanks for your email.  We enjoyed experiencing the Russian culture although the crowds at the main attractions were extreme.  I would not recommend going in August.

You did your job well but Intourist switched the order of our Peterhof and Catherine's Palace tours.  I understand why they did it but was not informed of the switch until the tour guide told us 5 minutes before we left.

The tours went well and the guide did a nice job.  Intourist had their driver scheduled to pick us up at 3:30 pm for  our return transfer to the ship despite your schedule indicating a 3 pm time.  Fortunately, l learned of this and called them to correct things   The overall trip went well and I thank you for your interest.

Have a good weekend.

George

Inga, Cathy,

I know this is late but thank you for all the work you put in arranging the holiday to Russia, and helping with the visas etc.

All the arrangements worked out really well and we had a wonderful holiday.

The apartments were ideally located so we had no problem getting to see the things we were interested in in both St Petersburg and Moscow.

As was to be expected, the list of things we wanted to see was rather longer than time available so we had to trim our expectations a bit.

However, if we get to go again, we know there will still be plenty more to see.

Thanks once again.

All The Best,

Barbara

It was a wonderful stay and we loved St. Petersburg. The trip both ways went like clockwork.
Hotel services well-run and ideally placed for sightseeing walks. Red roses and champagne waiting in the room as requested. It was graduation day on the Friday and well worth being there. We pushed the boat out and ate at the Palkin and Percorso restaurants. Also ate at Gogol - a few yards down the road. Lovely traditional place with staff in traditional clothing and one of them playing the piano in the room where we ate. Food and wine was fabulous.  Would recommend it.
Did the tour of The Hermitage that you arranged for us. Could easily have spent several days there to do it justice. The guide, Tim, was excellent. He was with us far beyond the call of duty and several hours over the time of the tour. He took us over the Neva to see the sights, although we did not have enough time to reach the Aurora. We would be grateful if you would feed back how impressed we were with Tim and the high quality of his service to us. He mentioned he worked at the university teaching French and English,  I think.

All in all a wonderful and unforgettable experience for all the right reasons.
Thank you so much for the travel organising. It worked perfectly.

Kind regards.
Grant

I would like to thank you so much for arranging the holiday for us in St Petersburg.   We arrived there in the rain and left there in the rain but in between the weather was lovely ?

The driver picked us up on the Tuesday and took us to the hotel which was so nice.  All the staff were so polite and helpful to make sure our stay was enjoyable.

The tours were excellent, the guide for Wednesday to Friday worked so hard to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves. On Sunday we celebrated our Ruby wedding anniversary and started off with a champagne breakfast and then our tour guide, Svetlana, took us to  Peterhof and the parks  and made sure that we had a good view of the fountains at 11o’clock when they turned them on.  Then a tour of the palace and a stroll through the parks before our return on the hydrofoil.  She suggested that if we had time we could visit the Church of the Spilled Blood which we did and then it was back to our hotel for a traditional Russian meal.  A really wonderful day which we could not have done without your help and Svetlana.

Once again thanks so much for all your help and patience,

Best wishes,

Ray and Sue

Dear Daina

This is a very late email to thank you very much for all the hard work you undertook to organise our Christmas trip to St Petersburg.  You were a star – very patient and nothing was too much trouble.  Viktor, our guide, was superb and in fact I think his English was better than ours and the icing on the cake was the tickets for the Nutcracker at the Marinsky.

We’ve told lots of people about our marvellous trip and I hope they are inspired to contact you to arrange similar ones for them – assuming our relations with Russia don’t completely fail!

Many thanks, again for all your help.
Margaret

Transportation

Railway mostly serves domestic routes and is used as an easy and quick way to get from the capital to major cities of the country. There are some international routes, like to Moscow and St. Petersburg, but time spent on the way will be quite long.

Buses are one of the most convenient ways to travel between the Baltic States. Eurolines will get you between Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn. One way tickets will cost £ 15 - £ 20 and approximate travel time is 5 hours between the cities. Ticket reservations in advance are recommended.

Taxis are the quickest and most convenient way of travelling round the city. You'll find them located close to the main hotels. Usually it's quite easy to catch a taxi on the street, however, it's much better and safer to order one by phone. Taxi costs in all of the Baltic countries and Poland are approximately the same and a ride in the centre of the city will cost you approx £ 5 - £ 7.  Taxis in Finland and Russia are considerably more expensive.  It is always a good idea to get your hotel to book a taxi for you and ask approximately how much the trip will cost before you get in.

We would not recommend you to take public transportation within the city, as it's usually crowded and it may cause you unnecessary anxiety about where to stop.
