Hi Julija

Happy new year to you too!

We can’t begin to tell you how fantastic our trip was. We was going to e-mail you anyway to thank you for everything you done to make this trip possible as without your help in finding us the right package and price I don’t think we would have gone.

From the minute we arrived to the minute we left we were treated so well and the activities we done were stunning!

The husky safari was everything we was hoping for and more! The snowshoeing and snowmobiling was so much fun too. The food was excellent and our accommodation perfect....we all took full advantage of the sauna!

Please find attached a few pics (many, many more taken though!)

Once again Julija, many thanks for your help and we will be recommending you and your company to our friends and family.

Kind regards

Andy, Tracey, Mark & Tracy

Hello

I also wish to echo Jean Pascal’s comments.

It has been a wonderful trip and surely and experience to cherish.

A great way to finish the year and kick off 2019 with a bang!

Both our stays in Helsinki and Nellim were memorable.

The accommodations in both locations were great and very comfortable.

Being downtown in Helsinki allowed us to walk everywhere and appreciate the architecture and a few museum visits.

The restaurant at the Glo offered great breakfast buffets.

Nellim was an outstanding location and the accommodations splendid.

The staff is extremely nice and helpful.

Our excursions were well organized and offered great opportunities to appreciate the scenery further. The guides were knowledgeable and nice.

Albeit having a bit of repetition with the food choices at the resort, the quality of the food was honest and good. The surroundings surely made up for a few repetitive casseroles ??

Thanks again for all your help in making this trip memorable.

We will surely consider a repeat in Scandinavia for one of our future trips.

Thanks again

Julie and Dan

Hi Julija

Just to say we are so grateful for your help in organising and coordinating our honeymoon for us. We had an absolutely incredible time and everything went like clockwork. We definitely will be back to the Nellim wilderness hotel and will use Baltic to do this again without hesitation. We really had an excellent time in Finland.
Also thanks for the wine in our room. What a lovely and thoughtful gesture!
Best wishes!

Hi Inga,

We all had a great time thanks. Everything was spot on and first class.

Many thanks for organising everything. As an aside I also spoke to Discover the World before deciding to book with you and your company for the first time. I felt that the service that you gave me was superior to that of Discover the World, and you appeared hungry for our business – so many thanks again.
We wouldn’t hesitate on returning to this resort.

Dear Daina

Thank you. We had a really incredible time. We found The Wilderness Hotel Nellim to be exceptionally clean, comfortable, warm & welcoming. The food was excellent as were the activities, well organised and well equipped.

The aurora cabin was the highlight for us and the night we spent in it, we got to see the northern lights.

Thank you for your excellent service & follow up.
Kindest regards

Hello Julija,

I hope you had a nice Holiday break. We had a wonderful trip. Thank you for asking.

Hotel in Helsinki was downtown and key attractions were at a walkable distance; rooms were clean, and the hotel assigned us to the say room before and after Nellim; and breakfast was very good (large buffet). Part of the Glo Art hotel is in a former church, so is also interesting architecturally.

Transport from and to airport was nice: comfortable Mercedes limo-style vans, with good drivers. Only one 25 min delay at Helsinki airport when back from Nellim.

Nellim was out of this world: rustic chic cabins and central lounge/dining building, quaint aurora bubble. The activities were run like clockwork, and the guides were nice and knowledgeable. The experience was memorable: The midday sun below the horizon and we saw a few northern lights, and a shooting star! The food was honest, yet a bit repetitive (let’s stretch the cauliflower a few days! Love those reindeer meatballs! ;-) )

I’ll let Julie and Daniel add their feedback as well.

Here is a link to some photos Hughes has taken during the trip: https://the-hsp-clique.smugmug.com/Fila-de-2018/n-LtZFWS. Password: 50 ans  (note: there is one space between ’50’ and ‘ans’; photos not to be shared unless permission granted. Thank you.)

Overall a very good experience. Thank you so much for your advices, planning and quick replies.

We would certainly recommend your services at Baltic, and our stay at Glo and Nellim.

Regards,

Jean-Pascal

Hello Julija

Happy New Year to you too!!

I was going to email you, but you got to it first!

It was a fantastic trip. Thank You so much for organising it for me - trouble is, I want to go back!!!!

The staff and the guides were so very friendly and helpful which was a massive help for me. Plus, I felt completely spoilt with the food, accommodation and the excursions! If I could give it 11 out of 10 then I would.

I will most definitely be recommending yourself and your company to family and friends??

Again, many thanks

Harriet.

Hi Michael,

We’re really good thank you - I hope you had a good weekend too.

I was going to drop you a note actually to say thank you so much for arranging such a wonderful break for us. Unfortunately, the weather meant we didn’t get to see the northern lights but the rest of the break and all the activities more than made up for it.

In terms of feedback:

The Aurora bubble was a little bit gimmicky, quite cramped but might have been more enjoyable if there was a clear sky for us to enjoy. Btw, thanks for organising bday champagne and cake for my husband too!

The Lusma cabin was good, really comfortable beds and overall quite a good space for us a couple. The inclusive sauna was perfect after a day out in cold. My only two gripes would be that they didn’t provide basics such as shower gel in the bathroom and they gave two single sized quilts rather than a double sized quilt. Given the price - one would expect some of these basics to be a given.

The guides and service were really great - friendly, knowledgeable and fun.

The place generally had a really welcoming and informal vibe.

The actual location was wonderful, very beautiful and the activities really made the most of the surroundings.

I would recommend a minimum of 4 nights rather than 3, as the first day was written off with travelling. And secondly, it gives you more chance to have some free time to unwind and do your own thing outside of the activity schedule.

All in all, I would recommend it to anyone and would consider going back maybe with friends or family.

Hope this helps and thank you once again!

Brinda.

Hi Michael,

Everything went brilliantly thank you. Northern Lights didn’t really perform but we did see them, even if it was a bit of a weak display. But it didn’t really matter because everything else was so great. We added the four hour snow shoeing and the Aurora Car trip to the activities we’d booked and had a busy and very memorable four days. Lovely clear skies to see the stars from the Kota on the first night and Lake Inari was beautiful on the husky dogs trip. Just great fun enjoying the beautiful surroundings, peace and quiet, and fun activities. Everyone very happy!

And thank you for the cake and Prosecco, which appeared in the room as half birthday/half valentine day treat on the last day!

Many thanks for a great trip!

Chris

Hi Julija,

Very quick update as unfortunately straight back into work.

In short, we had a fabulous time. We didn’t utilise all of the activities as the kids were generally shattered by the evening but loved all the activities we did. I would be very happy to recommend you and the Nellim hotel to anybody.

There were a couple of issues including the toilet blocking due to frozen pipes - not a lot anybody can do about that given the temperatures and the hotel were brilliant in trying to fix it and when they couldn’t, moving us to alternative accommodation.

The only constructive criticism I would have is that the hotel could do more to inform / advise guests as to how best dress and cope with the cold. We were just left to work it out and for warm weather people like us we we have no experience in this and it was only towards the end of the trip that we got the hang of how best to dress.

Otherwise, great hotel, lovely people and absolutely incredible place to visit. I wish we had been able to book a longer stay.

With best regards,

Matt.

Hello Inga!

our holiday was wonderful. The place is absolutely beautiful, and our cabin was lovely. The food was excellent, and the people were so friendly and helpful.

We saw the northern lights twice!

Unfortunately we did not go dog-sledding or snow-mobiling, because it was simply too cold. I have cancer in my left lung, and when the temperature dropped below -30, I could hardly breathe, so we were unable to take part. We were very sad about that, but there was nothing we could do about it.

I am seeing my oncologist next week to see how the cancer is progressing. if things are stable, then we may go back again in March, as the temperature will be more bearable for me.

Thank you for organising everything for us.

I attach a few photos.

Hi Lena,

Thank you so much for checking on our travel.

Yes there was a bit of confusion as they told me we should have booked the husky ride months ago, and I told them yes it has been like 3months since I have booked the husky ride.

Anyway, all our itinerary were greatly executed and we had lots of fun!

We did also see the northern lights for 2 nights! They are really amazing!!

We are now in the Philippines and will be spending the new year with our family then will go back again in the US.

So much travelling and adventure!

We will definitely book again will Baltic and wanted to go back to Finland as wr did not see Santa Claus ?? my husband's tummy didn't cooperate plus the queue was really long just to see Santa. Anyway at least we have a reason to go back to Lapland ??

Thanks so much Lena and also to Inga!

Have a prosperous new year and more travelling to us!

Maria

Good evening Inga

I don't know where to start with describing how amazing Nellim was. The service, rooms and activities were first class. Such a beautiful and peaceful area of the world.

We saw the aurora on our transfer from the airport and a number of times that first night. We didn't see it again but it really didn't matter. We could just enjoy ourselves without wondering if it would appear.

Husky sledding in minus 23 degrees Celsius was an experience I will never forget. I didn't realise I would be stood on the back of the sled until we got there but against a history of stumbles and the persistence of gravity, I managed to stay on it for two hours.

We also added snowmobiling into our trip and that was magnificent too. Having reindeer walk up to us when we stopped was mind blowing!

There was less than 10 guests in the resort so the service from the staff was very personal and attentive. They are so friendly! From the moment we arrived, they made us feel very special indeed.

I would return again in an instant.

Thank you also for the bottle of wine in our room when we arrived. A nice touch.

Regards

Julie and John

Hi Inga,

We had an absolutely brilliant week at the Wilderness Hotel in Nellim.  We organised a morning of cross-country ski-ing which I loved, a night snowshoeing and hot chocolate by a big big roaring campfire under the stars (No Borealis).   The Husky Safari was best of all and my husband and I took turns at driving.   I was so pleased to bring the dogs home and they were so friendly.   We also organised a Reindeer Farm Visit, stopping off at the lovely little church.   In the evening we walked out over the lake and were lucky to see a small taste of what the lights could be as the sky was clear.

Our first couple of nights were spent in the new 12 room cabin but I’m afraid there was no sauna in the building!!   Whether it has not been built yet, I don’t know as there was obviously work unfinished at the end of the corridor.   There is a sauna to book in the main building but when I spoke to Minka the manageress, she said a cabin had just become available with its own private sauna if we cared to move.   We were delighted, as you know this was what we had originally wanted.  Enjoyed my saunas each day thereafter.

Our last night was spent in the Aurora Bubble lying in bed with our complementary glass of sparkling wine and chocolate, looking out at the snow, the trees and the dark night sky full of stars, but I’m afraid no lights!   It didn’t really matter.   It was a lovely experience in any case.

All in all a wonderful 70th birthday which we will remember for many years.   Thank you for organising it for us.

Kind regards,

Linda and Bill

Dear Lena

We had a great trip to Finland.

Nellim is wonderful. The food and staff are brilliant. Minka is an excellent manager always smiling and Periita her daughter likewise.

Wearing of traditional costume is very popular with the guests and so they were much in demand for photographs.

The equipment provided, i.e. Boots, gloves, snowsuits, skis, snow mobiles etc are all of the highest quality. Similarly the rooms are very well appointed. It does feel as if a considerable investment has been made into the property.

Many thanks to you as well for all your help in booking Nellim and our excursions.

Kind regards Tina and Peter

Thank you for your email and happy New Year to you too!

We had an AWESOME time in Finland. Here is our feedback:

- In terms of your agency, everything was well managed an very easy for us, thank you very much. The options you provided matched our requirements perfectly, and you made it very easy to plan, book, pay and receive our tickets! All the people we have talked to at Baltic Travel were very friendly and willing to help. Very happy costumers.

- As for Nellim Wilderness Hotel: We had a great stay. We saw the Northern Lights 3 nights out of 4, so we were definitely very lucky! The hotel is great , the cabin was amazing  and the nature around the resort is just amazing, would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Besides these two minor things though, everything was perfect. Thank you very much for helping us planning this trip and please communicate our satisfaction to your team and the hotel!

Many thanks,
Marco

The Food was beautiful, the Staff were friendly, knowledgeable & really very nice People. I can't thank YOU enough for your time & efforts especially organizing the Seats on the Plane, I was absolutely fine all the way.

A real once in a lifetime trip, I even got to see the Aurora!

Thank you so very much for everything :-)

Will I see the Northern Lights?

Please scroll down to see the specifics for the country you wish to visit:

Iceland:
The Northern Lights are in the Northern sky from September through April but are only visible when the sky is clear and free of clouds. Like many of natures wonders, it’s ephemeral – they may be visible, they may appear for a bit and then be gone. But it’s worth it to be patient. Because they’re a winter event, you need to be prepared to wait outside, while looking for them. It’s best to dress very warmly, in layers, with good footwear, gloves, hats and whatever else will make you comfortable while you await this truly amazing event. The Northern Lights can be pretty spectacular, and for the best photos we recommend using a tripod. Much of Iceland offers a very a good chance to see the Northern Lights when conditions are right. Remember – the Northern Lights are natural phenomena, not guaranteed, but appreciated all the more for their elusive qualities.

Norway:
Northern Norway is one of the world's best places to experience the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis). In Northern Norway, Northern Lights occur in up to 90% of every clear night in the period from late September to late March. Most Northern Lights occur in the time span from 6pm to slightly after midnight, with an absolute peak at around 10-11pm.

In Norway, the area north of the Arctic Circle is prime aurora territory. The various destinations in the High North have a distinct personality, and are well worth exploring. Major places in Northern Norway are Tromsø, Kirkenes, Alta, Bodø, Lofoten and Vesterålen Islands and Svalbard.

Finland:
The best place to see the Northern Lights in Finland is in the Northern Lapland region, which is almost entirely located within the realm of the Arctic Circle. During the dark winter months here, when the sun rarely peaks its head over the horizon, you can expect to see the Finland Northern Lights with regularity, and other peak seasons include February through March and September through October. The most common colours of the Northern Lights are greenish-yellow and red.

The Finnish term for the Northern Lights, Revontulet, meaning fox fire, comes from an old tale where the fox was believed to swish its bushy tail on the snowy fell landscapes, throwing sparks into the air.

As mentioned, Lapland is the best place to see the Finland Aurora Borealis, with the Kilpisjarvi area offering the most abundant opportunities. The best time of the day to see the Finland Northern Lights is between 9 pm and 11:30 pm, though they are certainly not restricted to this time frame.

Sweden:
In Northern Sweden, the Northern Lights usually occur during the winter months through late March or early April, but they can be spotted as early as September in the Northernmost parts. Your best chance of catching a glimpse of the Northern Lights is on cold winter nights when the sky is clear and cloudless. You need to be away from city lights, which dilute the effects of these natural phenomena, so head out into the countryside. On clear nights, the Northern Lights can be visible from most locations in Swedish Lapland, occurring between 6 pm to and 2 am, with the strongest shows happening between 10 pm and 11 pm. For those willing to brave the cold on winter nights, here are some of the best locations in Swedish Lapland for viewing these phenomena:

Abisko National Park
Abisko National Park, a couple of kilometers north of Kiruna, is a prime location for viewing the Northen Lights. The scientifically proven “blue hole” — a patch of sky over the Torneträsk lake that usually remains clear despite overcast weather in surrounding areas — gives Abisko its own micro-climate, which is suitable for catching the lights.

Jukkasjärvi and the Torne Valley
Not only does the village of Jukkasjärvi (population roughly 541) boast the world’s first ice hotel (rebuilt ever year from Torne River ice), it’s also one of the best regions to view the Northern Lights. ICEHOTEL organizes guided tours for guests which takes the to the Esrange Space Center located 30 minutes from Kiruna. You can dine at a wilderness camp and get the chance to scan the Arctic winter sky for aurora borealis.

Other regions in Swedish Lapland
As mentioned earlier, if weather conditions are just right (clear, dark, cold, and cloudless), you might catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights from any location within subarctic and arctic Sweden — even close to larger towns such as Luleå, Jokkmokk, Arvidsjaur, and Gällivare.

Greenland:
The northern lights - or Aurora Borealis as it is officially known - actually occur all year round, but cannot be seen during the summer months in Greenland due to the midnight sun. The phenomenon is often seen around midnight and is best experienced on a dark, clear night in the period from September to the beginning of April. If you are travelling during this period, you can see the Northern Lights from anywhere in the country, whilst in South Greenland the northern lights can be seen from as early as the end of August.

Transportation

Railway mostly serves domestic routes and is used as an easy and quick way to get from the capital to major cities of the country. There are some international routes, like to Moscow and St. Petersburg, but time spent on the way will be quite long.

Buses are one of the most convenient ways to travel between the Baltic States. Eurolines will get you between Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn. One way tickets will cost £ 15 - £ 20 and approximate travel time is 5 hours between the cities. Ticket reservations in advance are recommended.

Taxis are the quickest and most convenient way of travelling round the city. You'll find them located close to the main hotels. Usually it's quite easy to catch a taxi on the street, however, it's much better and safer to order one by phone. Taxi costs in all of the Baltic countries and Poland are approximately the same and a ride in the centre of the city will cost you approx £ 5 - £ 7.  Taxis in Finland and Russia are considerably more expensive.  It is always a good idea to get your hotel to book a taxi for you and ask approximately how much the trip will cost before you get in.

We would not recommend you to take public transportation within the city, as it's usually crowded and it may cause you unnecessary anxiety about where to stop.
