North Norway Adventure - Lofoten and Tromso

7 days / 6 nights from £1,855 pp

This tour combines the charm of the Lofoten Islands with trendy Tromso.  The tour begins in Tromso, the Paris of the North, with its boutiques and restaurants.  This journey truly shows you the contrasts of Norway; the city and the countryside, the fjord and the mountains, and 24 hour daylight versus darkness in the winter.  From Tromso your journey continues by the famous Hurtigruten ferries, through dramatic, wild and beautiful fjords and mountains, tranquil bays and beaches, until you reach Lofoten.

Lofoten was one of the main seats for the Viking population in the north, and a rugged area of small islands connected by bridges, tunnels and ferries.

North Norway Adventure - Detailed Itinerary:

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN TROMSO
Upon arrival in Tromso, take the shuttle bus to your hotel, check-in and tiem to explore the arctic city. Take a historical walk  through the streets of Tromso and experience the architecture, city life and history of explorers Amundsen and Nansen. You can visit the Polar Museum and Ølhallen pub and Polaria Aquarium.  Visit the shops in the city. Many of these are cosy, and carry the latest European fashions, locally made products and special designed items. Paris of the North, this is the name Tromso was given by foreign visitors around the 1800’s, partly because of the fashionable way Tromsø people dressed and partly because of the mood in the city. Still Tromso people use this name and there is a strong international environment in this city above the Arctic Circle.

Overnight at the Clarion Hotel Bryggen or similar.

DAY 2: TROMSO - FISHING TRIP
Free day to explore teh city: This is your opportunity to visit more attractions, shops, and sights. Visit Blåst the glass bowers, take a tour from Olhallen pub into the brewery, have a glass of sizzling champagne or cava at the little café at the World theatre.

In the afternoon get ready for your summer fjord fishing. This adventure takes place in a modern speed fishing boat on the spectacular Lyngen Fjord. The fjord is surrounded by thousand meter high mountains, the Lyngen Alps, falling vertically in to the deep arctic water that holds great fish resources. Do not forget to bring your camera. During the excursion you will gain insight about the fascinating culture, try your fishing luck for species including cod, coalfish and halibut, and explore the habitat for the white-tailed eagle. Onboard features include a dining lounge, toilet facilities and a life raft for your safety. The boat has a licence to capture many tons of fish every year. You will also be comfortable outside on deck, wearing insulated regatta suites. Out on the fjord you will be served a hot meal.

Overnight at the Clarion Hotel Bryggen or simillar incl. breakfasts.

DAY 3: TROMSO - HUSKY ADVENTURE & DEPARTURE TO LOFOTEN ISLANDS
Breakfast at the hotel and today's adventure is husky wagon drive! Say hello to a bunch of huskies that are ready for action. The husky wagon drive starts with learning how to train and groom dogs. You will get detailed instructions on how to drive a husky wagon. Then you drive the huskies through the wilderness, covering a total distance of 8 km. The area has a fantastic landscape, and the strength of the dogs will impress you. We will be driving in pairs, one driver and one passenger on each wagon, with the opportunity to switch places half way. You will receive a hot meal during the excursion.

At 23:45 board the Hurtigruten ship for a cruise to Lofoten.  From late spring the days are long and you can enjoy some spectacular sights as your ship slips through tight fjords. Accommodation in an inside cabin (pls ask us about upgrades).

DAY 4: ARRIVAL IN SVOLVAER, LOFOTEN ISLANDS
Enjoy breakfast and lunch on board your ship while you cruise through the picturesque fjords. Arrive at Svolvear with the Hurtigruten at 18:30.

Accommodation in fisherman's cabins (Rorbu) at Svinoya.

DAY 5: DISCOVER THE ARCHIPELAGO TOUR
This full day tour takes you on a journey through the beautiful Lofoten archipelago. You will experience charming fishing villages, un-spoilt nature and the most extraordinary and genuine part of the islands. Passing by the ancient fishing village of Kabelvåg the tour leads you towards Eggum, on the western part of Lofoten. Here, looking right at the ocean, you meet the true strong, rough and expressive beauty of the archipelago. The next stop will be the stunning Utakleiv and the unforgettable view it offers. Continue to the soft, white sand beaches of Ramberg and then the beautiful village of Nusfjord. This village was listed by the UNESCO as a world heritage site and all its completely wooden buildings date from the 18th century. Return to Svolvær.

Accommodation in fisherman's cabins (Rorbu) at Svinoya.

DAY 6: WHALE WATCHING SAFARI TO ANDENES, VESTERALEN ISLANDS**
Morning bus ride from Svolvaer up to Andenes on Vesterålen Islands (~ 3 hrs drive). Each whale safari begins with a tour in the museum dedicated to the marvelous world of marine mammals and you will hear about their life, ecology and behavior. The museum tour also includes a new slide show “Sperm whales and other fairy tales from Andenes” which shows all the beauties of Andøya.
After the museum tour the unforgettable boat safari begins where you can experience closely these remarkable animals. The protagonists of our whale safaris are the sperm whales, and we see sperm whales on 95% of all our whale safaris. But exceptional encounters with other species such as harbour porpoises, dolphins, orcas, minke, humpback and pilot whales also take place.
Usually each trip lasts around 3-6 hours but it can take shorter or longer time; it all depends on where the sperm whales are and for how long they are diving. To watch whales in their natural environment is not like being at a zoo, we need patience while searching and waiting for the whales to show up and we also need to be ready for changes. Lunch package is included. Possible to buy lighter meals onboard the boat.
**This tour is only available on Tuesdays

Accommodation in fisherman's cabins (Rorbu) at Svinoya.

DAY 7: FERRY SVOALVAER - BODO, DEPARTURE FROM BODO
Breakfast at the hotel.  Direct ferry from Svolvaer to Bodo for your departure flight.
