Denmark holidays have come with a lot more variety nowadays, from city tours to fly drive Denmark holidays. The ideal place to be for rich history, guided tours or short weekend city escapes. Holidays in Denmark are ranged so you're spoilt for choice, now onto Denmark's history...

With the Vikings long retired, and their swords replaced with Lego and allocated time for hygge, travelling though this happy and clean country with its endless coastline, is now a safe experience, and one where you will soon come to understand why this nation time and time again is voted the happiest on Earth.

Denmark is also proud to be one of the greenest and Eco-friendliest countries, and has a long standing tradition with clean energy. Due to its relative small size, even with a short trip to Denmark  you can manage to see a lot in a short period of time.

Where to go on your trip to Denmark?

There are Viking Museums and lots of exhibitions for children to explore in the summer, one being the Longboat in Roskilde. Children and childish adults can have lots of fun seeking out the Viking activities throughout the country, making our recommended Denmark Holidays & ranged selection of itineraries below perfect for a family trip.

Summerhouse in Denmark

Why not visit the location for TV series “The Killing” and “Borgen” (the Danish Parliament)? In addition you will have a joyful holiday in one of the most prestigeous summer villages of Denmark, Hornbæk, and still be only 45 minutes from the centre of “Wonderful Copenhagen”. Hornbæk is located 35 miles north of Copenhagen and offers one of the best known fine-grained sand beaches in Demark and cosy village enviroment.

More about Denmark Holidays & Trips

Also known as the gateway to Scandinavia, wonderful Copenhagen is much more than just the setting for the three famous TV series “ The Killing” , “Borgen” and "The Bridge". This truly magical Danish capital offers a unique and beautiful blend of clean living, style and trend, whilst being grounded to its core.

Gourmet and Nordic Cuisine is one of the top attractions in Copenhagen which you should definitely pop into on your trip to Denmark. Noma Restaurant, three times voted the World’s best Restaurant, has its Michelin Stars but so do many other Restaurants in Copenhagen, and now also in Aarhus. We manage to secure reservations to Noma Restaurant from time to time: contact us for more information and see more here.

The locals & Copenhagen

With a population of just 1.4 million people, Copenhagen is a capital that manages to remain intimate and friendly, despite its status as an international city with an 800-year history. People speak a level of English rarely found in a foreign country and are extremely happy and down to earth, perfectly embodied in the iconic and exquisite statue of The Little Mermaid, quietly perched on her rock just off the piers of 'Langelinje', bringing to life the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen.

Copenhagen is very child friendly, has something for everyone and all within walking distance, but to tour the city as a native, grab a city bike and join the extensive network of cycle paths found throughout the city. Watch the changing of the guards at the Royal palace, jump on one of the many canal cruises or sail across to visit one of the most modern and most expensive opera houses in the world, whilst enjoying stunning views back towards the Queen's castle, and the centre of the city itself. Then sit yourself down in Nyhavn, have a well-deserved Danish beer and a slice of the famous 'Smoerrebroed' whilst watching the world go by.

When recovered, why not immerse yourself in some of the best shopping destinations in Europe, just a few hundred metres away. Copenhagen restaurants are really worth coming for, 13 Michelin stars and growing. Nordic cuisine is now famous around the world and travelers come for the Copenhagen restaurants; we can build your itinerary round your gastronomic tastes and include Aarhus, the second biggest city in Denmark, also decorated with Michelin stars.

If this isn't enough, you can even have a go at water polo (summer only!) with the locals in the clean, yes clean, harbour pool before heading off to the heart of the city, Tivoli gardens, and taking a stroll through its magical 21 acre park with over 400,000 flowers, concerts, restaurants and rides for every age. For the brave, and a panoramic view of the city, try the world's tallest carousel, and lift yourself and your feet 80 metres up in the air!

In the winter the park transforms into a winter wonderland with stalls and winter treats. End your day with Copenhagen's buzzing cafe and night life, or dine in one of the 13 Michelin starred restaurants, such as 'Noma', a place where not only Nordic, but gastronomic cooking in general has been redefined.

Setting out from Copenhagen you can head north to visit the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, with its considerable collection of Modern Art and a Sculpture Park with panoramic views over the sea. Continue further north to Helsingor, where you will find one of Northern Europe's most important Renaissance castles, and the setting of Shakespeare's Hamlet, Kronborg.

South, on the beautiful island of Funen, lies Odense, a city that, in 1988, celebrated its thousandth year anniversary, making it the oldest in Denmark. Book Denmark holidays to experience Odense, which is also the birthplace of one of the country's most beloved writers, Hans Christian Andersen, a man who has delighted children and adults alike the world over with his now famous fairytales. You can choose to learn more about his life in his museum or by visiting his house, idyllically situated in a small cobbled street.

In the peninsular Jutland, you can choose to visit the home town of the world recognised brand, Lego, and maybe spend a day in the original Legoland amusement park.

Driving north to the vibrant university and coastal city of Aarhus, the European Capital of Culture 2017, you will find a place of art and culture, with a lively music scene and cafe life. Visit the brilliant art museum, Aros, or transport yourself back in time walking round the unique and hugely popular working urban museum of The Old Town.

Venturing North-west through the Danish Lakeland, you can enjoy numerous water and land based activities. In Thy National Park, you will find an area known as Cold Hawaii, made of the coastal dwellings of Nr Vorupoer and Klitmoeller, where watersports enthusiasts from across the world come to compete and enjoy life in the 'fresh' waves.

At the northernmost point of Jutland and the entire country, you will find Skagen, situated in a picturesque area distinguished by its low, yellow houses, red tiled roofs and surrounded by white sand dunes. Here you can witness the spectacular meeting of the North and the Baltic seas, a place of clashing waves, strong currents and many past ship wrecks. The once remote fishing and artists’ community, with its miles of pristine beaches, is now a top summer holiday destination for Danes and foreigners alike, and what was once a modest fishing community has been transformed into one of the most popular, and most expensive, areas in the country.

Getting around is very easy, as Denmark has some of the best and most efficient public transport systems on offer, from high quality roads to extensive train, ferry and bus routes, a trip to Denmark would be a breeze for solo travellers.

You can choose to book yourself into a hotel, B&B, visit one of the many caravan parks and camping sites or for a truly Danish experience, you can go for the self-catering option and rent a 'sommerhus' (summerhouse) or simly enjoy the Right to Roam, and pitch your tent in the wilderness. Whatever you choose to do, and wherever you choose to go, a little bit of your heart might just be left behind in this remarkable country when your holiday to Denmark comes to an end.

Reviews of Denmark Holidays & Trips

March 2025
Overall rating: (5/5)

Hi Daina,

I hope you are well. We had a lovely holiday in Denmark. Thanks again for arranging it all. We bought a Copenhagen card and used it on transport and museums and Tivoli Gardens and a canal ride. The weather was lovely most of the time too.

The hotels were fine. The hotel in Copenhagen was particularly quiet, although centrally located, which was lovely, and both hotels had a great choice at breakfast time. I particularly enjoyed the very dark bread. I don't eat much bread usually.

We didn't have much time in Aarhus and the weather was poor. As the trip from Stansted is so easy for us we intend to return there some time to see more..

Best wishes to you and I'm sure I'll be in touch again!

Linds

Dear Lena

We had a most wonderful weekend thank you. Flights were on time, the hotel excellent and the celebratory meal outstanding. Saturday was cloudless, ideal for the water cruise; Sunday was a bit wet but not bad enough to spoil things.

Many thanks for arranging it all.
regards
David

Thank you for your e-mail, we had a really lovely time in Copenhagen. It is a beautiful City and the people are so friendly.

Everything went well, the hotel was first class, food, room and breakfast couldn’t have been better.

The walking tour with Daniel was interesting and well worth doing. There were only two other people besides us which made it friendlier.

Our trip to Malmo was again interesting, we went on the canal trip, but not as nice as Copenhagen.

The last day that we had to ourselves, poured with rain, so after doing the necessary shopping we headed for the Carlsberg factory, which again was well worth a visit.

The only slight disappointment was when we arrived, the person that met us went to find a taxi, which isn’t a complaint, just feedback, because he was fine but I did worry that I had to pay because the meter was running.
The trip back to the airport again, the driver was 15-20mins late, which again worried me as I like to be at the airport in plenty of time. He said he had contacted the hotel but we weren’t informed despite sitting in the lobby area.

Denmark is a country that we would definitely visit again sometime.

Many thanks for contacting us and for arranging our holiday.

Kindest regards

Catherine

Thanks Daina for all your effort put in for our short break in Copenhagen. Thanks also for the train times and ensuring that we didnt get wet in Sweden. The Hotel was first class and in such a central place to be.  The hotel staff were first class and we can only thank you for all the work you did.

Thanks

Hi Lena,

Thank you for your email and for arranging our trip to Denmark. We thoroughly enjoyed Copenhagen and would go again. It must be said that it was eye-wateringly expensive at times but this was mitigated by the inclusion of the CPH card which we put to good use. We visited various museums, the palace, theme park, design museum, botanical gardens and we also got the bus to Dragor fishing village. THE CPH card is really worthwhile and easy and efficient to obtain at the airport with the voucher provided.

People were friendly and helpful and invariably spoke better English than the Dansk I had been learning for 3 months! That said I did get thanked for making the effort and at least half the time people appeared to understand me so it wasn’t wasted. I have found Danish quite difficult, pronunciation especially, but have decided to keep learning so if we go again it will be better.

Staff in the hotel were all friendly and helpful and the location was brilliant - about 3 minutes walk from Nyhavn so this is not a big deal. Oh yes and we had really good weather contrary to forecast (only rained at night!).

I am keen [photographer and took loads of photos but really wanted one decent shot of Nyhavn which I am really pleased to say that I got. I have attached a jpeg for you. We really liked Nyhavn and spent some time in restaurants and bars there.

In all it was great, it is very expensive but I think the nicest capital city we have been to.  Thank you once again for arranging it for us.

Kind regards,
