Sweden Weather

An Introduction To Sweden

Sweden is the biggest country in the Nordic states of North Europe and lies close to Finland, Denmark and Norway. With a land mass of 450,00 sq.kilometres and only 10 million people, it doesn't take much to work out that the population density is low. 85% of the people live in urban areas so the countryside is all yours. From the frozen north to Stockholm sitting on its 14 islands, forded by 50 bridges, Sweden has it all and a range of weather to suit every journey.

For simplicity, Sweden can be divided into three areas: Gotaland in the South; Svealand in the middle and Norrland - strangely enough - in the North. Round Gothenburg and Malmo, near to the famous Bridge with Denmark, expect short, mild winters and summer temperatures up to 25C. Svealand has colder winters with the thermometer touching zero, especially close to the fabulous ski resorts of the north-west of Sweden. Norrland is more like the Sweden we all imagine with cold winters, lots of snow and wonderful Northern Lights dancing across the sky.

These are our lands and we will take you there

More about Sweden Weather

Ski at the the northern most resort in the world. 200 kilometeres inside the Arctic Circle, Riksgransen enjoys - if that is the word - 32 days of total darkness in December and 52 days when the sun never sets in summer. With 60 peaks over 1200 metres, the season can last until June and from the end of May ski lifts operate under the Midnight Sun. With 29 pistes, 6 lifts and a lot of off-piste skiing available, Riksgransen has been providing arguably the best skiing in Sweden for over one hundred years. Boarders are welcome and the extreme sports are - well - extreme. The Scandinavian Big Mountain Championships are held here every year in May, so that tells you there is no shortage of snow.
