Eating out in Moscow is a unique experience due to the sheer variety available, as well as the unique hours the eateries follow. Most establishments are open round the clock and serve full course meals any given time, day or night. From exclusive restaurants such as Mayak where all the well-known patrons abound, to small cafeterias and cantines such as Elki Palki, or even mid-range joints such as PR OGI- there is something for everybody. While a decent meal at a mid-level restaurant will set you back at least $30, the cheaper cantines offer hearty food for around $10-$15.

More about Moscow restaurants

Eating Authentic Russian Food In Moscow

The Kvartira 44 Restaurant is hard to locate, but offers some of the best meals in the city. It is an intimate joint, frequented by only those who know about it, and offers a variety of Russian dishes. Coupled with a relaxed atmosphere, a quiet pace, small crowds and a cosy ambience, the restaurant makes for a quiet evening out. The food is not very expensive by Russian standards, but may still be a surprise for those who are visiting for the first time.

Italiano In Russia

For an Italian meal at a mid-range restaurant, we recommend heading out to the Italyanets Restaurant. A standard meal will be priced between 700 and 850 rubles, which translates roughly into between $28 and $35. Business lunches are common at the restaurant ,where you pay around 400 rubles for a main course meal, an appetizer, and a soup. Found at the address 13, Samotechnaya Ulitsa, the nearest metro station is Tsvetnoy Bulvar.

A Taste Of America In Moscow

American restaurants are fairly popular in Moscow and are divided into two types- steakhouses and burger restaurants. While the burger restaurants are usually inexpensive, steakhouses can be steeply priced owing to the supreme quality of the meats. Papa John’s Restaurant is a popular American restaurant that is known for its authentic American pizzas as well as great beer and garlic bread. Find the restaurant at 5/6, Kravchenko Ulitsa, Metro: Prospekt Vernadskogo, Moscow.

Sampling Pan Asian Cuisine In Moscow

The first and foremost Pan Asian cuisine restaurant to have opened up in Moscow was the HKong Restaurant. With Japanese, Chinese, Thai and Taiwanese cuisine on the menu, this restaurant quickly became one of the most loved in the city. While authenticity is maintained in the menu, some of the dishes have a European twist to them, to keep in tune with the cosmopolitan culture and pace of Hong Kong, the place the restaurant is named after. The restaurant has a classy yet relaxed ambience and makes for a great evening out with friends and family. A meal can be priced anywhere between $40 and $70 per person. The restaurant can be found at the address 7, 1st Tverskaya-Yamskaya Ulitsa, Metro: Mayakovskaya, Moscow.

A Tidbit Of Tibet In Moscow

If you enjoy Tibetan food, one of the best, and one of the few restaurants with Tibetan cuisine in the city, is the Tibet Kitchen Restaurant. Not only is the food great, but it is also very affordable, with a meal costing as little as $20. Find the restaurant at 5/6, Kamergersky Pereulok, Metro: Teatralnaya, Moscow.
