Kon-tiki Museum

The Kon-Tiki Museum in Oslo holds maps and vessels from the famous Kon-Tiki expedition. The museum also houses a large library with nearly 8000 books. The museum was first opened in 1949 and moved to its current premises designed by architects Otto Torgersen and F.S. Platou in 1957. Torgersen also opened the extension of the museum in 1978.

More about Kon-Tiki Museum in Oslo, Norway

Norwegian writer and explorer Thor Heyerdahl used a Kon-Tiki raft on his 1947 expedition from South America to the Polynesian Islands, across the Pacific Ocean. Kon-Tiki got its name after the Viracocha who was Inca Sun God. Kon-Tiki also has also given a name for Heyerdahl's book, a documentary and dramatized films about his adventures which have also won Academy Awards.
